Yeah, chatterboxes RULE!!! I have had one for about 5 years! I love it!! Even pipe my FM and/or MP3 into it... works well for those long h/w runs when you're riding by yourself!

WANT/NEED a new Chatterbox GMRS X1

Speaking of chatterboxes.... thanks for reminding me. I want to get a new one this year...

I love using my chatterbox, but my current one is getting old, and doesn't work as well as it use to. Not bad considering it's like 5 years old and I use it ALL THE TIME!

Does anybody have any good leads on a good price for one?

I figure I would get the good one... Chatterbox GMRS X1

All the channels and the 5 mile range... I think it's the one a bunch of WOS just bought last year?!?

Chatterbox website

I can get them on EBay for about $225 + S&H... but figured I'd check in here before I go that route

Just to provide another option for you guys that does everything the chatterbox does, the Audio Boss AB-1M by moto comm. You can hook cell phones, mp3 players, radio communication between bikes, etc. to them, and they are a lot more affordable. Also, Moto Comm has excellent customer service, as well. Just another option for you all. :)

The new dig's rock over 5 miles reception on flat land!
They are very hard to tune the voice active part! loud pipes give the other person an ear full at hard acceleration. I find I use the push to talk more and more as my wife's skill and speed level increases.

Motorcycle Consumer News had an article in March 2004 on making bike-to-bike communications for less than $100. Buy GMRS walkie-talkies (watts are about equal to miles, ie. 5 watts = 5 miles). All pretty much the same, so get a weather-proof one, and the most sub-channels (99). You can get a good pair for $50. Will fit in your pocket or tank bag.

Now for the important part, the headsets. They looked at inexpensive ones and found two bargains. The PocketMate K06D ($63) is at www.rocketquality.com. They also have hookups for almost every radio, cellphone etc. The headset $34 and cable $29 offered excellent quality. The mike picked up some wind noise, but was less than most. The Sierra headset www.sierra-mc.com was almost as good but picked up a little more wind. If you don't need the long range, Sierra offers a complete system 9EH-465 for $170, but it uses the lower powered FRS radios.

:here: No, I don't think they work with the old style (analog) being Digital and all.
I may be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

Find out... cause if they don't then it's pointless! Also, what's the scoop on the chatterbox. Do you guys carry them? What type of deal can I get (if you have them)?

Gas - Check with Dynet. I think she was selling hers, might have e-bayed it already. hard to say.

Also, they should all work on the same frequency band. The FCC has designated a certain frequency range for all family radios. These are the hand held Walkie Talkies which include the Chatterboxes. Therefore if you are on your bikes and your friends are in the car following you, they can chat to if the have the family radios, brand doesn't matter, Motorloa, Cobra, etc. Of course the problem is that if you are in an area where a lot of radios are in use, yousometimes get a lot of random conversations interuppting your ride. The only problem you will have compatibility-wise is the newer digital ones have more main channels and 38 subchannels. You may not share all the same channels and may not get the benefit of using the sub channels if you are talking with other people with various other radios. You may need to change to one of the non-digital Main (no Sub) channels to talk with older radios

The moto comm doesn't come with a radio. It's basically a switching system that you plug the communication radio into. We're almost positive that they all run on the family band two way radios, which means someone with a moto comm could talk to someone on a chatterbox. I will call moto comm tomorrow to verify this, though.

We don't have a chatterbox dealer account because we have so many other systems (moto comm, nady, etc.) that work just as well and aren't as expensive.
