ok i had my bike for 2-3 months brand new i got it. ? is how much tire should a new rider have untouched on his tire after a month of riding. i had mine for a month and i still have a bout a 1/4 inch left on the sides that is untouched.

Also is this what chickin strips are?

also any help on proper technique on leaning into a corner.

They're called "chicken strips" because they show that you are "afraid" to lean the bike. I still have chicken strips on my new R6 because I've only put 100 miles on it and I'm still getting used to it's handling. However, I had used every bit of the tire on the Katana. Our bikes are designed to handle, it's just a matter of understanding your bike and becoming comfortable with it's limits. I highly suggest picking up a book such as Total Control or Twist of the Wrist I & II. Or you could go to an instructional school or track day. A combination of the two would be best. I had gone to an instructional track day first, and then picked up Total Control. While I had learned a few things at the track day, I understood more by reading the book. Just take your time and don't rush it.

Another chicken strips thread.... UM OK!

Yeah they suck but are good indication as to how fast the rider will be in the corners...

hmm, thought it was the original "chicken strip" thread....oh well,,,i said it in the other one and ill say it here......do you people even know what a 1/4" looks like....1/4" to the edge of the tire is fine (and in no way is a chicken strip) ..in fact if your there all the time, then your not leaning off the bike enough...the whole idea of leaning off the bike is to keep the bike as upright as you possibly can, theres no sense running on the edge of the tire if you dont have to....

i would say an inch..is a chicken strip (wait let me look at a ruler).....ya, an inch is a chicken strip...anything less is fine... :bthorse:

Out of 15 post, no one said its pretty unsafe to lose those strips on the streets.

chicken strips doesn't really tell if a rider is fast or not.
You could just have bad body position on the bike and not hanging off enough making to lean more and go slower.

and you are correct, but chicken stripes and dragging a knee seem to be more impoortant than going fast to some people in here...

Actually, correct body positioning would lead to larger chicken strips... Most of the times on the street you see the guys leaning more like a dirtbike... they are leaning the bike more than themselves just TRYING to get those strips gone... when if they were actually in the correct position the bike would barely be leaning at all...

My stock Dunlops on my hawk have big ol strips. They are a bit flattened out in the center as well... Time to get some Powers!
