Cigarette butts and riding

It's getting darker and colder in the mornings on my way to work. The weather has so beautiful that I've riding the bike almost everyday. It never fails, at least once on my way to work, I wind up initiating evasive maneuvers to get out of the way of a burning cigarette.

In the darker mornings, they're easy to see with the shower of orange sparks flying about. It really irks me when I'm wearing my Cordura, since it's not exactly flame retardant.

So, again, this morning I'm minding my own business on the way in and BOOM! There goes another, headed right at my bouncing around. I'm just waiting for it to come up and bounce in my lap.

Notice to smokers: Use your @#$%@'in ASH TRAY. Not only are you an inconsiderate jerk by tossing them on the ground, but you represent a safety hazard to me when I ride. It's dangerous enough for me already, I don't need the risk of catching fire to worry about also.

I'm with ya on this!!! F'in smokers!!!! As you said, let's not even think about the billions and billions of these little filters littered along all of our roads and highways. If I was a cop I'd start handing out tickets for littering....

OK...let me jump on the smokers bandwagon here....well, OK, maybe not..but I dont litter even though I do smoke. I hate it when im riding and see a butt flying out at me as well, so IM with you on that one. I think cops can technically right out a ticket if they catch you doing it, but I dont know for sure.

Simple solution: golf balls. When some one ahead of me drops a cigarette out the window, I quickly pass and return the favor with a golf ball. I get so ticked when I'm in my 'vette or on my bike. It is just rude.
Having said that, I have been guilty in the past of dumping butts out the window, but I always waited until there were no other vehicles around me.

I am a smoke, but I do have to say it even Pi$$E$ me off when I am driving in my car and someone throws a fricken cig butt out the window. I can only imagine being on a cycle and havign one throw. Either way I at least respect others drivers (or riders) and hold on to mine until I come a complete stop somewhere. I know I am still bad for throwing on the ground too!!

I agree with you kayaker on the golf balls. I am a non-smoker and it pi$$es me off just as much. If not golf balls since they are a bit big, try a hand full og pennies. Ask Carrie about that one. She has already done it.

OK, something tells me if start lofting golf balls at the driver, you have a bit of a law suit on your hands..

they have to be able to see your plate and remember it long enough. If not and most likely they won't, no worries. LOL

What about when bikers fling them at you? That is even worse. Ever see those HD fouckers that ride while smoking? Kind of like the fouckers that smoke and eat at the same time - jesus can you wait 5 minutes to "get your fix".. Some people. I am a part time smoker, whatever that means - I used to smoke like 4 packs a day (I always used my ashtray) but I quit pretty much - I just smoke now at bowling, the bar and usually when I ride (the once a week ride that is). So I don't smoke much in the car anymore, not at all that I can remember but if I did I would use the ashtray for sure. I have been hit by many butts on my bike and it pisses me off - can you not see a friggin bike behind you moron?

I wish there was the technolgy to have electronic devices you could tag cars with for being an asshole.. and when A cop sees someone that has a few tags on em, they get pulled over and cavity searched!

Oh yes, pennies work well too! I always keep a handful in my ashtray in the event that ANY arsehole pi$$e$ me off while driving. Some beyotch wants to cut me off, she's gonna get her pretty little car banged up a bit. Let her prove it was me. :wink: Being on a bike, even better. "Umm officer, While riding my bike I never take my hands off, how would I have time to dig for something to throw at that car" :lol: skeet skeet skeet

That would take some of the heat off us, for sure

yup, which is why you don't loft them directly at the vehicle. instead, you just drop it on the pavement and let gravity and the bouncing energy of the ball do the rest.

How exactly do you get a golf ball out of a (bag?) and throw it while riding? Seems physically more dangerous that evading a cigarette butt.

Well seeing as I am in the trolley biz and we use 2" chrome steel balls for wheels, etc. they make great anti-cage weapons and fit very easily in your pocket. Of course I would think at 80mph you could kill someone with a golf ball or steel chrome ball so thus I have never done this. I know people who have with success and then those that did and pissed off the cage that then ran them over - road rage is a mutha.. Personally I choose to drive offensively - I have been known to break pack and "go after" a cage that cut one of us off.. Usually I zip past them and then slow down to an insanely slow speed so they get the point, that and the # 1 I display to them. There was one time though that a van cut me off on a service drive and then stopped 20' short of the traffic light which made me kiss the back van door glass for a second - kind of like an endo or stoppie with the help of a van - but I saved it, backed up and proceeded to drive up to the side passenger window which was closed and pound on it with my fist trying to break it. The guy **** his pants because I was screaming obscenties, saying I was going to kill him and trying to break the window to pull his punk ass out. He drove off and I went to work. Damn cages.
