man i had my first SERIOOUS close call

i was going to applie for the sonic in modesto and came home and filled out the application then went back about an hour later to turn it in...... i wwas just crusien and forgot that the turn was up ahead so i had to make a quick lane change.....i did it right (over the shoulder and all that).... but i wasent consintrated on the rode and hit a BIG pothole and scared me because i was leaning to make the lane chnge

well i was cursin at myself about a mile down the rode and was so condintrated on the dam rode this time that i dident realize the light was red and i almost hit the car that stoped at the light .......i had to slam both brakes on(good thing i practice this b/c i did it prefect and no lock up) but braking wasent enoughf i had to slightly turn into the open part of the lane to the left and if i stayed streight i would have when 3 or 4 feet into the dam car!!

That is close! Good thing youve been practicing. Better take that as a lesson learned but dont let it keep you off the bike. Just remember how fast things can go bad if your not paying attention.

that was a crappy couple of minutes. pay attention...if you're thinkin about somethin else while riding it will take a pot hole or something to make you realize you need to be watching and scanning the road instead of thinkin about the broad you banged the other night, know what i'm sayin?

Better question is... How far ahead do you scan while you're in traffic... Book says to scan 10-15 seconds ahead of your route....? Where are you looking? If you can see far enough ahead.. Then lil' obstacles won’t be a surprise...

Relax and slow down bull..... Especially when your mind gets...well...anything... mad, sad, confused, thinking about that hot ass 17 year old that just smiled and winked... whatever it is, if your mind isn't in its "sweet spot", then you need to pull off, take a breath, relax, clear your head and then continue...

Exactly! If you find yourself thinking about anything other than what is currently happening or going to happen in the next minute, then you're not where you need to be. If you can't concentrate, then you need to stop and get your head straight before continuing. And I'm speaking from experience. You can NOT think about what just happened a few seconds or minutes ago. You need to be in the "now", as you have just found out. Glad you didn't get into an accident. Oh, and look over your front tire and rim REALLY well. Look for any bulges in the tire and check to make sure the rim is straight. You'd be surprised what a pothole can do to a wheel and tire.
