Drug treatment for Courtney Love
Judge: 'Further consequences' at September sentencing

Friday, August 19, 2005; Posted: 2:46 p.m. EDT (18:46 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Courtney Love tearfully admitted using drugs in violation of her probation terms Friday. The rocker-actress was ordered into a 28-day drug treatment program by a judge who said he had wanted to put her in jail.

"I think that you need to hit rock bottom before you make a decision about what you're going to do in the future," Superior Court Judge Rand Rubin told the sobbing Love.

She was in court for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance, which wasn't identified.

Love's voice cracked as she said, "Yes, your honor," when asked by Rubin if she understood she was admitting to three probation violations. She is on probation in three separate cases.

The 41-year-old Love was told to enter a drug treatment facility by the end of the day. Her attorney, Howard Weitzman, wouldn't disclose the name of the facility or whether it was a lock-down program.

The judge ordered her back to court September 16 for sentencing on the probation violations.

"There will be sentencing and some further consequences at that time," Rubin said. "I think you either need a long-term drug program or a long term in County Jail."

Outside court, Weitzman said Love had had a relapse but will "deal with it."

"She's serious. She's sincere. And she's pretty tenacious about getting her life in order." Weitzman said. The lawyer explained Love had violated terms of probation in one case but that "if you violate in one you violate in all."

Love, the former lead singer for the band Hole and the widow of Kurt Cobain, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge on February 10. She was already on probation in two unrelated drug cases.

Earlier this month, the judge issued a bench warrant for Love's arrest, but he agreed to hold it pending Friday's hearing.

At a red carpet event this month, Love said: "I'm clean and sober for over a year and no one seems to care! They're like, 'Oh, her dramatic weight gain.' So, stop making fun of me!"

In July, a judge praised the singer for making progress in a court-ordered drug treatment program. The treatment is tied to a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance in 2003 when police alleged she tried to break into a former boyfriend's home.

i am acting by raising my children in a responsible manner and by making sure this is never an issue for my family. if everyone would just do that, there would be no need for services like those above. but again, i DO respect you for all that you are doing. the welfare of the child should always come first. i am an extremely compassionate person, and if ever i am in a position to help a child, and it is feasible for me, i would like to take the opportunity to do so. every child deserves a good life. i love all children...that's what being a mother means to me.
Think about this...what happens to your children if you and your husband are killed in an accident?? Do you have the safety net prepared?...or do your children end up at my house?...or worse? You can say you are helping by raising your children "properly" but what happens to them if you aren't there?? Now if you get involved in the system, you will meet some of the finest people on the planet along with the scum...and maybe, one of the good ones will step up to take them and they won't end up with the others...Not all of the children in foster care are there because their parents were drug swilling felons...
actually if something were to happen to my husband or myself...our will is already written kids are to go to either my parents...or my brother and his wife.

We have already planned ahead...with Chris(my husband) who races professionally, who could at anytime be hurt or killed.....we both decided to have our wills done now.

Furthermore unless your a mother, you can NEVER fully understand what its like to have that kind of maternal feeling....the feeling of wanting to do whats best for your children and keeping them safe whenever you can.

I'm not saying your job is wrong...however...your NOT a mother, so therefore you can NEVER Understand Itgirl and my side of this......

She looked like crap at P. Andersons comedy roast. She was waisted.
:iagree: I know she normally has a few screws loose, but man, she was out of it at the roast. The best part was she was quoted to say a bunch of times:

Ive been sober for a year, seriously, I have!!!
ummmmmmmmmmmm :disapp:

good question. i do indeed have a safety net. my sister and her husband would take our kids, as would i hers in the same instance. again, it would be irresponsible of me as a parent to not cover all my bases. you have made good points to me, as i hope i have done for you as well. you indeed have given me lots to think about. we both want what is best for our children, and all children for that matter. i will no longer bother you with this discussion. thank you for the educational and inspirational debate. all the best to you...
Good points between many of you...

Many don't have safety nets installed. I only have a few things to add... I hate to see the mother vs father ideas..... I'm not a parent but have strong feelings on the topics surrounding parenthood. Furthermore, I know that I am part of a safety net, I have a now 10 year old brother in law and if anything happens to my mother in law and her husband, I become a big brother/father figure to the little guy (his father passed away about a year ago). So maybe that adds a different angle to my POV on that safety net idea.

Oh and kudos to HOTW and Bee for debating it without getting out of hand! :dthumb:
thanks gas man

Yeah, saw that too....and the host said "if your not on drugs you've got more serious problems..."
I believe it was Horde Fest 1999, maybe 2000, or something like that at Pine Knob, Michigan. COurtney Love performed to then be supposedly banned from ever performing there again after she took a doll and put it up her dress (apparently not wearing under garments), and then threw the doll to screaming fans. I think someone has issues!
no Ace....she doesnt have issues.....she IS an issue....what that should seriously be locked away for awhile!
screw that - let her kill herself on drugs and be done with it the amsterdam way..

hmmmmm wishing death on her is a little far for me. Luckly she has money so she can afford to make a mess of things and still have a chance.
