Alright so I wired up my heated grips so that they can't be on unless the key is on and until the bike is started. Well I discovered a flaw in my plan the hard way today. Stopped to talk to someone and hit the kill switch and did not turn off the key. Since the lights were on the grips were on (I didn't turn them off manually) and I completely forgot :bonk: . After about 5 or 10 minutes of chit chatting I hit the starter...ticking. Turned it off and back on...ticking. Backed up a small incline and gave her the old push start. Drove 30min home and turned it off then tried to restart it...ticking. :cursin:

I have it sitting on the trickle charging and will let it sit all weekend since i'm out of town. Did I ruin the battery or will it survive? thanks

One year old battery should be ok - surprised it didn't charge after a 30 minute ride though?? Did you idle alot? Low speeds? Regardless the trickle charger should take care of it. Small batteries are pretty weak and can be killed pretty easy - could have deep celled but I highly doubt it (unless from trying to start after being dead). Might have blown a fuse or something. The alternator could have failed. All highly unlikely, I think charging it will take care of bizness.

:lol: My grips killed my bike a day ago! End of a 16 hour work day and the last thing i was thinking about was turning my grips off. next morning- DEAD. It sat on the charger and is all better now. i like my charger, 2amp, 4amp, and 6amp settings and quick too.

give it a good charge and it should be ok, however I have had batteries only last a year then they were shot...so its a 50/50 shot.

I left my headlight on for about an hour yesterday. Jumpstarting is really a PITA. I had my next-door neighbor on the bike, and I pushed him for about 1/2 a block before he was able to jump-start it... My battery was fine after about a 20 min ride, though. I hope yours recovers.

LOL, I got to take this one. Think about the two words 'heated' and 'grips'. It's for us people who live in cold weather environment that don't like our hands freezing off during winter rides.

Ya ya Mr. Warm weather guy...shut it.

Well I let it sit on the trickle all night unplugged it this morning. Came back a couple hours later and it started right up :dthumb: . I'm gonna leave it on the trickle this weekend just for safe keeping but I think it's all good.

I'm really glad I wired an SAE plug in line with my grips though, nice and convenient to unplug the grips and hook up the charger :cheers:

Fat...your trickle charger is a auto charger right? If its a manual...don't leave it!

But anyway, most bikes don't recharge batteries all that well. I use tokeep my 9R on the battery tender all the time...

Yea,your bike's charging system wont charge a dead battery...and like he said don't leave it charge if it wont tun it's self off automatically,especially if it's in a garage,the hydrogen built up can and will explode! I've seen it happen,very violent explosion.I had to pull a peice of the plastic side of a battery out of a guy's face.You got to keep in mind how and why it would happen,It dont happen often but when it does...check the level of electrolyte before you throw it on the charger...

It's a motorcycle designed trickle charger with no switches so I am assuming it's one I can plug in and leave. But man I'm gonna :cursin: if my house is gone when I get home.
