On a slightly spirited ride today aboard my Gixxer. I encountered a first.

We were riding at a very enjoyable pace toward the end of the day. (thank goodness close to home) I noticed a slight coolant smell. We made our usual stop just a few turns later. Steam instantly was apparent. Then a slight spray from the radiator.:cursin:
On further investigation. We decided that it had taken a rock thrown from the bike in front of me. It made its way above the finder, between the forks and under the front upper. (What are the odds of that?) Its just a small hole but enough to end the day and create a challenge to get home.:cursin: :cursin:

This is the first I have ever seen this happen and hope its the last. The only other time I have ever had a damaged rad is from a crash.

Ill get the rad off tomorrow and have it repaired this week. Hopefully back together soon, ready and waiting for another warm day.:tt:

I've never even lost a hose except in a crash. But I do keep a check on those things.
i've never had one go on a bike, but on my car I had a pin hole leak about two weeks ago.

One time I had an angry drunk neighbor B**ch that sliced my fuel lines on the SV.

Ok...hold up...there's a easier fix.

A few years ago, Twisty had a rad leak on a trip to a bike night. This was on his TLS. The horn in front of the rad had got bent down and rubbed thru the rad. This is what we did

Just get some of that rad. epoxy. Rub it on there and BAM. He rode on that for like another 2 years, even at the track with no problems.

I see that you said gettin it fixed. So I suggest this or taking it to a rad repair shop. Whatever, you do...don't buy a new one!

I thought of using a epoxy to fix it. Wouldn't even have to take the plastic of for that. I figure with my luck.:skep: I would be out in the middle of no were on a Sunday and it would blow again. Ill just get it fixed right.:yesnod: No new rad here till one is waded up beyond repair.

Besides. I already have it off.

So do you have a rad shop in mind?

That will be included in my re-install after I get it back.

$600, ouch!

I found a place that makes aluminum guards for my radiator. I'm not sure what it costs to replace mine.
I think I sold my rad off the SV for $220.00 when I parted it out.

Those are in high demand too. They stick out so far. They get hit on simple drops.
Did you price one new?

yeah I checked out what everything cost brand new before I sold it, then I compared to what everything was going for on ebay. So I basically made everything cheaper than anyone else so I can make a quick sale and make more than enough to pay off the SV loan, and the laptop loan.

Anyway the new rad was $400-$500.

I still have the clear titled SV frame I need to get rid of.

Why is that?
Like those guys said... a new rad is big money but you can almost always get the old one repaired for cheap and it will be as good as new if done right by a desent rad shop!
