All the time in stop and go traffic only. Ca its legal to lane split all the way up to posted speed limit.
Make many trips through Oregon, Washington state, lane splitting is not legal  Really sucks to be stopped in traffic with center section open.

damn..I wish that was legal in PA, but I know how drivers are in my area..really a royal pain in the ass and dumb as all hell...I know its that way in alot of areas, ( im sure busa girl can relate) but geez, I've never seen a more concentrated area of terrible drivers in my whole life, including PA in general.

That being said..yeah, I've been known to do it on occasion.. ;)

No, but I've been tempted MANY times. It's suprising that a state like CA would allow that. I can remember driving to LA many times when I lived in Phoenix and seeing it.
Whats even more surprising, when flow of traffic is 65 MPH in 70 MPH zone. Legal in CA to lane split up to posted 70 MPH speed limit. Law states when splitting lanes you cannot be more than 5 MPH over the flow of traffic.
Everybody in CA splits lanes faster than 5 MPH over flow of traffic. Never heard of anybody getting a ticket for it.

Every so often when splitting lanes. You can see car driver looking in their side mirror at you coming, then turning his car into your path

When i visited my friend in Cali I saw this all the time. It seems the Cali drivers are well aware that at any stoplight, a bike might be coming down the middle. I was unaware that you could do this at over 30mph tho.

We can't here and I don't. However, I just read an article in one of my UK mags about it, only they call it filtering. They described in detail how to do it. . obviously it's legal over there, and even encouraged.

The basic idea is when two cars are right next to each other, that is the safest time to go. They're aware of each other and tend to be a little further apart, there's no threat of either of them coming over into you.

In the California driver's handbook, it's called "lane sharing" and although legal it's not recommended. I can't remember the exact terminology, but it's something to the effect that lane sharing is legal between a motorcycle and another vehicle only when it is safe to do so. This determination is at the viewing police officer's total discretion. I'm pretty sure that if you're splitting lanes at anything about 15-20 mph, you will raise the eyebrow of your local traffic cop.

I lane share all the time when traffic is stopped or moving at a snail's pace. I have found that most people will make room for you but there are those few that for whatever reason decide to move over and not let you through. When this happens, I find it quite satisfying to go behind them and pass them on the right sided of their lane which has been left vacant because of their attempt to choke me off. Then, as soon as I pass thier car I move back over to the left side of the lane and continue on till I encounter the next trouble maker. :) All perfectly leagal as I'm still "sharing the lane" with the vehicle at all times.

CHP officer told me, legal to split lanes up to posted speed limit ;)
In stop and go traffic in Calif. 90% of the motorcyles are splitting lanes, most faster than 15 to 20 MPH. Never heard of anybody ever getting a ticket for splitting lanes.

Well like I said, it's up to each officer's own discretion. They usually don't ticket you for lane sharing, they would probably site you for other offenses like, illegal lane change, wreckless, or unsafe speed.

I have never heard from anyone who was actually ticketed for lane sharing, then again I don't ride with people who would try it at any speed above 15-20 mph. :)

Here is Michigan, I do it all the time. It isn't legal but either is speeding. In traffic jams I tend to go for the sholder most of the time. The splitting is more for the high speed jaunts...
