How often? Do you take them on long day trip rides, or just down to the local mini mart for a soda or something? How young do you think is too young for kids to ride on the back of bikes ? Or maybe you never take them for rides?

i dunno man, i gave my 3 yo son a ride (just a 5 mph ride) while sitting in front of me on my gsxr. i have been giving him rides on 4 wheelers since he was 6 months so he knew how to just hold on and chill....

my wife freaked out over it though.

I have taken Austin for rides on my bike al the time this past summer. He loves it and I can't wait for him to get bigger and older so i can let him ride on the back. Right now he just sits on the tank and I will take it upto around 35mph.

See Matt...after that first time I took Jesse for a ride and he's now hooked on it. :)

I don't have kids myself but I think this is a question that can only be answered once you know the kid. Some kids will do as you say to keep both of you safe, but others aren't as conscious of their actions and could endanger you both. No matter what, even at the slow speeds you guys are talking about, a helmet would be a must. Might as well take the oportunity to teach them right. As for me, I'm not even ready to take adult who knows how to ride on my bike with me, so it will be a long time before any kids a ride!

My 8 yo twins thought we were flying at 33mph going through the neighborhood. I did make the mistake of taking one of them for a little faster ride on a back road. She just wasn't ready. My 13 yo loves to go for longer rides.

My wife _may_ one day get a bike and ride... I've never taken her for a ride and don't plan to in the distant future. But, there's hope for her :) and she likes guns (sort of)

My 14 yo daughter has no interest in bikes... and I've never taken her for a ride and don't plan to... and she doesn't like guns so there's no hope for her

My 5 yo son likes going fast in the car and has shown interest in bikes... there's hope for him riding... he likes guns and explosions so there's hope for him there too...

2 1/2 out of 4 ain't bad... ;)

Well, since the first one is on the way in June, it will be awhile before I take him or her for a ride. However, here is a decent idea:

Those are a great idea, thank you for the link ! I haven't read the whole article about them yet, but if you, God forbid, get into an accident, where you go, they are following you for sure! :willy:

I love taking my kids for rides, although I don't get to do it as often as they would like, they always enjoy it very much!

 The kid loved it so much you could hear his big mouth 2 blocks away!

Capt. Morg... Thats a good idea, thanks for the site. :dthumb:

Although honestly, I just don't think I am ready for Austin to be taken out on the main road. There are too many dumbarses on the road and I just can't bare to take that chance. He is just gonna have to be content with riding around the condo complex for now.

Twisty.... So when are you gonna get started on Baby Knee Dragger????

Thanks Captain...I like that idea but as you can see, Carrie is not to keen on it just yet. LOL I know Austin would love it and I know I would love to go a bit faster for him as well. He enjoys going fast on "our" bike.

Daughter #1 is 7 and she rides on medium rides of 40 to 50 miles with me. She wobbled around on one of her first rides and we almost went down, and we went home to wash my seat and so she could change her pants. Now she knows how to sit still and pay attention to her surroundings, she will be a pretty good rider. Daughter # 2 is 3 and when she gets on I hear her saying, faster Daddy, faster. She doesn't get to go very far yet, just around the block, but she is willing, just not able to sit still.
