I thikn it can and it can't. People like new, shiny, untouched, and as close to you can get to that is great. On the other hand many models have their particular sniglet, and a lot of the used examples will have the mods done to cure that. For example my model, the VTR, is known for soft fork springs, and many used have already had that taken care of. Some might want the ease of having the little stuff already taken care of for them.

i think the only way it could hurt is if you think you deserve more for the bike than what it is actually worth due strictly to how much you invested in mods. as long as you strike a reasonable price, there should be no problem. i know i'd love to buy a bike with the mods done already, saves me time and $$ doing it myself.

:iagree: I won't pay extra to compensate for the mods on a bike. I think modding race only bikes could be both beneficial and detrimental to the overall value of the bike and its ability to sale.

depends on the mods. really i wouldnt pay MORE for a modified bike. but it may sway my decision when deciding between 2 bikes. The one thing i may pay a little more for is a top shelf shock or forks. but sometimes you would have to spend more money to undo some junk they paid money for. The one i will stay away from is an opened motor. if they've gone inside, i dont want it. there is no telling what backwoods hack was banging around in there.

These would be pluses to me: handlebar risers, new grips, suspension upgrades, and brake pad upgrade.

These would be minuses: custom paint, chrome, little turn signals, fender eleminator, and wrong size tires.

I could go either way on these: aftermarket exhaust and seat, jet kit, taller, shorter or different color windscreen, and headlight mods. If they did a mod, but kept the priginal part, it could change a minus to a plus.

A bike depreciates like 45% the second you walk off the showroom with it.. No amount of pristineness or super-modded-leetness is going to make very much of a change in that.

I don't think it hurts... some like to do it themselves and in that case then it does... but as long as you aren't expecting to get more money out of your moded bike than what a un-moded bike value, I think you'd be ok!!!

I think it can and can't...some people don't want a bike that has been all fixed up with after market parts .. most of the time that just shows the seller was probably hard on the bike. The seller also can't expect to get his money out of what he/she put into those after market parts.

I never have expected to get all that cash out. Alot of times I take some aftermarket pieces off and sell them on ebay.

I figure all they do is add to the appeal to the bike!

:withstupi Most all my bikes are moded heavily with bolt on stuff. I also keep most all factory stuff. When it comes time for sale/trade. I usually put most the stock stuff back on and keep the mods for new bike if they will fit or sale to offset the price of new mods for new bike.

I really don't think it makes it harder to sell but for the most part, no one is going to pay you for what you put into your bike.....within reason. I bought my bike brand new in 2002 and if I wouldn't have been so ready to purchase a bike, I would have done more research :readng: and purchased a used one with a few of the goodies that we all like..... But 3 years later and I have no regrets. :twfrox:

I'm with everyone else on this one. Can and can't. Depends on what you do to it, what $$ you wanna sell it for and who's gonna buy it.

Depends on if someone is looking for what you've got. Myself, I wouldn't buy a tricked out bike with extended swing arm, custom paint etc. for any price. I buy my bikes to ride, not show.

Yeah I mean take a bike like 1badcbr's... he's got alot of $$ into it. Now would I want to purchase that bike for what it is most likely worth? Not really. Does he deserve all the extra money he put into it? Of coarse... I just could warrent it for my personal taste and riding.

To the right person. 1BADCBR might bring in more than is invested. To the average person. Its just a custom bike that they wouldn't pay much more than, if any more than a stock used bike is worth.
That's why most I know do it for the love and not the money.:2cents:
