Hey all,

Glad I found this site, I love all the information on here. I have absolutely no experience with motorcycles but will be buying my first bike on eBay spending about $3,500.

I am a little reluctant to commit to such a large purchase on eBay. One bike I liked is "in excellent condition. This bike recently had a tune-up and oil change and is ready to go". Unfortunately the description is lacking besides that. Is there anyhting I should know or ask the seller before buying the bike. Overall, have others had good experiences buying on eBay? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I like e-bay and I use e-bay, Just remember this is a buyers beware market. A motorcycle is a big purchase. Irecommend you find one on e-bay that is close enough that you might be able to see it first,

Welcome to TWF and good luck.

I agree... on something like a bike...I would want to see it.

:welcome: to TWF.

The #1 thing to watch out for is this... THE #1 SCAM... a smokin deal on a bike... I mean a stupid good deal! The catch is always this... it is someplace and the seller is out of the country. Send him/her money and they'll ship the bike. You ask to see it and the bike is already at a shipping depot crated and ready to ship so you can't but he/she promises it's good to go, just look at the pics! ITS COMPLETE BS!!! If it looks too good to be true then it probably isn't!!!

Don't buy anything, ebay or not...that you can't put your hands on and ride...You said yourself, you don't know anything about motorcycles...start reading everything you can about them, find someone you know and can trust to help you, especially if they own a bike...and start hanging out with the bikers you want to ride with, be it Harleys, Sportbikers or scooters...you will meet some fine people who will help you get started

Hey GasMan...put a sticky on that thread you posted with the checklist for buying a used bike...

And....... :welcome: ... :twfrox: ... :welcome: ...

I have bought two bikes on eBay over the years. (YSR 50 and a GSXR 50) One was great and as described. The other was far from what I expected. Both worked out fine in the long run.
The big thing to remember is the shipping if its to far to go get personally. It may be cheaper to pay a little more locally than to buy something unseen and uncertain about its condition. :luck:

:iagree: Unless you can actually see it in person, hear it started up and maybe even test ride it...then I wouldnt buy anything from someone off ebay...especailly at that price.....however my husband has bought a bike off ebay...but the person he bought it from was highly recommended and could be trusted. Plus Chris actually went and saw the bike and tried it out before he decided to buy it.....better to play it safe, then be sorry.

And if your looking to buy a starter bike, since you've never owned one before, I would start out by looking either in a Trader Magazine or your local newspaper, at least that way....you can see it, before you spend all that money.

:welcome: :welcome: to TWF. :twfrox: Hope you enjoy your time here....you'll learn fast, the people on this forum are nice and full of information.....plus their great people!!!
