hello everybody, i recently bought a 1972 honda cb 450 dohc with the intent of fixing it up and riding it. i am new to motorcycles so and it only needed a few minor fixes so i thought it would be a good project.

Anyways, i got it running but to my horror when it started a hose attached to the engine running to the bottom of the frame starting pouring gasoline out of the engine. i cannot find anything about this hose, or its purpose in my owners manual or anywhere on the internet. can anybody tell me what might be causing this?

also, my bike is smoking white from the exhaust, but i gathered thats not unusual for a bike that has gone 10 miles in the past year and a half.

pictures are of where the hose attaches and where it ends up dumping gas from

feel free to ask me any questions if you want to know more.

Thats the engine breather hose.

Are you sure its gasoline and not water and oil?

Have you had a look at your carbs? It could be a stuck float in the carb, I would open the float bowls up, clean them and check the float valve shuts off.

If it is this it, maybe your carbs have been leaking fuel down the cylinders into the crankcase and hence then being pumped out of the breather hose.

Also remember to shut your petcock off as you may have fuel pouring into your engine from a stuck float.
