Hey guys. Im new on the site and I got my first bike a few months ago. Ive had my fun with it and now im looking for other guys with my bike. Just to get some info and opinions. Ive got a 95 ZX9r. I have some dumb questions and some smart ones.

Recently Ive been having a problem with Clutch drag. Its really bad. I also blew My gasket for the slave cylender. so I figure theres air in the hydraulic line. I have bled the system about 5 times and no improvment..(i also replaced the gasket). Im thinking Im just not bleeding it right. It seems to be an air tight seal.. so I dunno...Any comments?

And now for a dumb question....How do you know if your bike is a ZX9 A1..or a ZX9 A2..or a ZX9 B1 ...or whatever the catagories are... I have no clue what mine is..

Well thats all for me for now.. I hope to hear from my fellow Ninjas

Hey... :welcome: Aesop...

I own a 2002 ZX9R... As far as knowing what exact model it is... I would suggest this...

Kaw Site
Owner Info
Parts Diagram
Input your VIN

This will give you a great tool for disecting your bike and for ordering new parts.

Of coarse LarryG could probably answer right off the top of his head...

Thanks for the info.. But the Kawi site didnt really help because the bike wasnt purchased from a kawasaki dealer?? or something crazy like that. I bought it from a private seller so the site doesnt recognize the VIN #.

I called the closest Kawasaki dealer to me today..(4 hours away) and ordered a new slave cylinder and a new master cylinder and im going to attempt to put them on myself. (I consider myself fairly mechanicly inclined) and I do have a repair manual...(mind you its for zx10's cuz the stupid people ordered me the wrong manual).. but anyways.....thanks again for the pointers

The web site should recognize any vin number, make sure you didn't make a mistake. Unless you aren't in the USA and may need to hit a different official site. However, IIRC the A model was the original 900 Ninja back in the 80's, the B model was the porker they put out in the 90's with a motor that was based on a bored and stroked ZX7R (you have a ZX900-B2), and the C model would be the one after that weighed only slightly more than the ZX6R and looked similar as well. The number indicates what year of that particular model, for example the original 900 Ninja would be a ZX900-A1...and your bike would be the second year of the B model.

Now I have a stupid question. :)
I'm looking at some ZX-9R's and on one of them I could hear the valves clicking. On my old Kawi, EX500, the valves were quite loud and that was their norm. Is this true on a 1995 ZX-9R? Or does this suggest there needs to be a tune up on this bike?

Thanks for any help guys,

-Ben

AFAIK, the ZX's are not really known for loud valves. Not to mention, if you only heard it on one of them, I would say it is not the norm...Just a thought.

Well I didn't really get to hear the other one but for a second, and did not think of asking to hear it again after hearing the valves on the other bike.
My old EX500 had pretty loud valves. So I just wasn't sure if it was common on the ZX-9R or not.
I'm not too stupid, I just get excited and don't think about things until later. I really wasn't even looking at that bike, I was more interested in the one I only heard for a couple of seconds. lmao.
Of course I have to go back for a testride and check everything out, but if I have the money, as the bike i'm looking at is a 1995, I will definitely consider buying your bike Gas Man.

Hey Gas Man. The guy wants 3,700 for this bike.. A little too much if you ask me. So I'm really considering your bike. I think at most I will be able to go $5,000. A little more if you help with delivering it up to a certain distance. How far would you be willing to go with it? My uncle is about 6.5 hours away from you. I'm not sure what he would think about picking it up for me.. I remember when I was 8 years old he drove 4 hours to pick up a little dirtbike for me.. lol
I'm also looking into the cost of shipping..

The real problem I have is that I have to buy the bike site unseen... I hate to do that though I'm pretty sure you have kept great care of it.

Could you send me some really good pictures of it? I don't care how large (in megabytes).. I just want to see some of that road rash you were talking about. As well as close ups on everything else...
My email: [email protected]

Thanks man,
Ben
