Hey people, I finally broke my cherrie today riding my bike. Well, actually I attempted to ride.

Some idiota in a mustang decided to take a turn really, really wide with me already in the turn and he headed right for me. Like I was making a left turn and he was making the right (oncoming). The bike was leaned over and I couldn't straighten out in time so it went down on a lowside. Not too much damage though. Mirror scraped a little, engine cover scratched and frame & swingarm sliders got rashed. But what really pisses me off is the upper portion of the tail cracked and now has to be replaced at $300.00 without INSTALLATION! Arg, I'm so pissed. I'm alright though, just gotta get a new pair of JR full gloves and new jeans. Little rash on the knee and that's about it.

My friends said to call the cops and say it was a hit and run and that the guy fled the scene cause he kinda did once I hit the ground but I didn't do it. He lives in my apartment complex so I'm now kickin' myself saying that I should've but oh well.

Pics may come tomorrow.

That's shiitty dude. Ebay is always selling full tails for a lot less. they're easy to put on too. Sounds like your frame sliders did their thing huh? good to know. The guy in your apartment lives in your complex? Maybe you should confront him. There's also all types of mirrors on ebay. ebay is the way to go.

R6 Tail

This is the only one I found on eBay that is any good. The price now, with no bids is like $132 + $35 on shipping. Buy it now is $189 + $35 shipping.

That's the only good one but I don't have the money right now so I'm gonna have to wait on it.

The longer you wait the better the chances of a good deal roll through. Do a search for "03 04 05 R6" and see what they have. I usaually peep it every other day or so and I'll let you know what I find.

If it was the other guys fault, why would you let him get away with it and leave you with expenses to fix your bike ??????? thats just plain dumb.
Go tell him he has 2 choices, pay for all your repairs or you report it and he gets charged with leaving the scene...........see what he says

I know I am an idiot! Please dont beat me up.
But if your going around a turn on the wide side and he should be to the inside going the other way but took it wide, how did you low side without turning sharper toward him? To low side you would have had to have been tightening your turn that he was wide in, to low side.. I am sure I missed something but I didnt take my anti-stupid pill, and you let him get away and I dont dare call :wbs: when I am unsure of this situation. I would be knocking on a door with the police before I payed for anything or even looked up anything. I would making him buy Top dollar genuine Yamaha parts for my FZ1, R6, R1, or even a Honda Rebel if it wasnt my fault. Careles driving is what it is and we "Bikers" Have rights also to be on the same roads and streets as cars. And protected by the law and insurances. Now if he did it go get him. :2cents:

I'd nail his azz to the wall if you can. Make his insurance pay for it. If it was his fault for being in your lane, go after him.

Glad you're ok man ! :)

I don't have a police report or nothing like that. I am gonna see about it tomorrow. The only thing that really is expensive is the upper rear tail section but I'm thinking about putting a racing one on, like with the built in seat cowl so I don't have to worry about going 2up. I'll find out about the police/insurance thing tomorrow.

E:

To explain the low side. I was on the inside portion of the turn, like by where the line is or would've been (it was a residential road). And he went wide, like would've run into what I figure would be like 1/2way into my lane or something close to it. I guess you can say that it was more of a panic thing since I saw the guy turn into me so I didn't respond the way I should've, oh well. You live and learn and my "learning" will cost me like $600 bucks or something like that if I go with all OEM parts and all.

I'm not too sure if I want all OEM parts so we'll see.

Did the guy actually make contact with you?? If not, don't get caught up in a false police report... that being said I would still look into contacting his insurance and possibly police for reckless driving, etc...

The most important thing is your ok, and Good luck. :dthumb:

Wow...Grafixx, the self described nut, falls on his R6 less then a year after he gets it... What a surprise! :skep:
Its very common for this in the first year of riding. Which is the reason we suggest a used bike.

:iagree:

And also, since you technically left the scene without calling the Police, you really dont have a claim either.

A similar situation happened to a friend of a friend of mine. Some guy bumped him at a low speed, he dumped the bike. The guy drove off, and he got back on his bike and chased him down, "detained him", called the cops and explained the story. They didnt come out because the Police say once you leave the scene yourself, you really have no leverage to make a claim.

However, I would try and call anyway, who knows, maybe its different from state to state? :luck: with all that and Im glad youre okay and have minimal damage to your bike :yesnod:
