Could it have a bent sprocket shaft.
I have seen chains that come off and get wound up so tight around the front sprocket to bends the shaft. Does he know if the chain has ever came off before? And this is just a guess.

Could you be a bit more precise as to what a "sprocket bearing" is? If it's what I think you are talking about, does he pressure wash his bike?

Most of the ones I have seen if it is the counter sprocket have had a seal but that dont always meen crap. Water will do it. :iagree:

Unless there is something really wierd in the rear wheel....I'm not sure what you're talking. The rear sprocket should be directly mounted to the cush drive of the rear wheel...

stick around... LarryG will know...

The rear sprocket is mounted to the cush drive and the cush drive has a bearing in it (in addition to the two in the wheel). Usually, those go bad from water contamination caused by overzealous pressure washing trying too hard to get rid of chain grease.

Just a thought.

Wow!
Is this something on just that bike or, is it becoming common?
Iv had the wheel and hub off my 05 Gixxer and didn't notice an extra baring.

Thanks Larry :dthumb:

I went through several set of tires and changed the rear sprocket on my 03 Gixxer. Changed the sprocket and tires on the 05 and have never noticed it. I'm due a new rear soon (3400 miles on Pilot Power and still some left) I guess I need to pay more attention.
