Ya I just got my enrollment packet to MMI, but I'm in the military and I can't just take a year off to go to school.

For simplicity, you can't beat a two-stroke. You can change the piston and reeds quite easily, and the carb(s) will be simple, instead of the constant-velocity ones. Then move up to a four-stroke with screw-adjuster valve adjustment. Then a shim-under-cup valve adjustment. Then clutches, constant-velocity carbs, etc. I would start with a mid 70's Yamaha RD 350-400.

I've been doing this for the last few years. Get a cheap little bike, set a goal (like get the engin out or heads off), then throught the thing back to gether and get it running.

By the when you gonna be going? I'm waiting on the same thing you are, but I have to wait for '09. Also did you have to call them to get the inrollment packet here in europe?

No I went on line and gave them my APO. But it is a little easier to just call them. That way they get your address right.

Start with an older (1970 to 1990) 500 or 750. Pick any brand. There are plenty around to pick up parts and the manuals are available...I have picked up old Hondas for 200 - 300 bucks that just needed a coupla' hundred in parts and some wrenching

Great idea G Man

Also :iagree: with starting on a two stroke then move to singles and twins than to the I4's. That's what they will do in school any way.
