Groups that I found on the web for trackdays or racer schools that require water or water wetter. This is what I found so far.

WERA and CCS all require water or water wetter for races in their rule books.

I think that most groups allow it in the novice or school groups.

Best thing is to e-mail the group that you are going to ride with and ask them up front. And have a back-up plan if someone changes their mind or if the track management steps in.

Keep in mind the whole thing is to keep slippery stuff off the track in the event of a shiny side down event. The Engine Ice is better than regular anti-freeze but it is still a little more slippery than water and won't dry up as quick.

STT allows Engine Ice in the intermediate and advanced groups as well. At least they did at Putnam. It wasn't on that bike prep page, but it was on the registration form at the track. They allowed anything in novice, but you had to use water, water wetter, or engine ice for intermediate or advanced. I made sure of that before hand because I had Engine Ice and I thought I would be moving up to intermediate the second day. But, since you do a lot of track days with different groups, it would definitly be a good idea to just go the all accepted route.

For all they know, they could have old fashioned antifreeze in them.
They always just ask what coolant I'm using and leave it at that.

usually if you crash and spill antifreeze all over the place you will get a nice fine for the clean up, at least thats the way it is at loudon and the LRRS,,,,(plus all the other racer/riders are gonna be real pissed with the delay its gonna take to clean it up)........so i imagine it would be the same at other tracks...fine use to be $250.00, not sure what it is now.....

I would say just don't be a tool. Run the approved coolant. Are you really getting over on anyone by running anti-freeze?? It costs a metric fortune to go the track when you add everything up. What's another couple dollars and hour of your time to change the coolant?? Just my :2cents:

You're actually getting less cooling if you run anti-freeze.

Plain water would be the best, but it's very corrosive. Anti-freeze is basically there for two-reasons - freezing, and corrosion. Water wetter acts as an anti-corrosive and actually cools the bike much better because you've got more water in the system than you do with a normal water/anti-freeze mix (you only use 4 oz of water wetter to the gallon of water). They also claim it changes the surface tension of water to improve heat transfer, but I'm not a chemist so I can't comment to much on that aspect

I see that the STT website states that only water or water wetter is allowed in intermediate and advanced. However, when I was at Putnam Park, the registration form stated that Engine Ice was allowed as well. Is Engine Ice allowed at Mid Ohio?

Excellent research Captin' now we have 3 more options. :dthumb: So as long as your local bike shop carries at least one brand you should be good to go.
