Great bike! I started on a GS500, but they didn't have the sporty F model when I started five years ago. Instead, I learned how to ride it...got all of my "drops" over with, and then Roach put an aftermarket body kit and paint job on it to make it look sporty. I loved that bike...you will really enjoy it. It's fun for a first bike!

I've just recently test rode the Suzuki with a friend. It was to be her first bike as well. It, along with the Kawi Ninja 500 and 250 are great starter bikes. Enough oomph to get up and go but comfortable seating positions so that the rider can focus on riding technique rather than looking like a monkey humping a football.

My one complain was that the front brake was ultra sensitive. There's hardly any travel at all before it bites rather abruptly. So be real careful with the front brake or you'll find yourself on the ground.
