i just bought my brothers bike from him, a 01 gxsr 750. and it pops out of gear in first and second under a hard load. i have a few questions. the first is, should i pay to get it fixed or should i try my luck with an ebay motor or salvage motor? i was told by the suzuki dealer that it may cost up to $2500 to fix it. th e other question is i know 00 - 03 motors will fit in the bike but are the electronics the same? why i ask is because power commander units are good for 00 - 01 and there is another for the 02-03. any help will be great. :D

You need to find the problem first!
That does sound like to much $$$$ to me.
If its is in the gears then I would consider a E-Bay motor.
Not sure about the swap of years, other than the newer are a little stronger.

thanks for the replies, and i do have a feeling it is in the tranny. the last time my brother rode it he said he down shifted from 5th to 4th and he said it locked up on him. and now it wont go into 4th. and that may make me wonder about the shift star now that you mention it. i did ask him if it may be an adjustment he can do to it that may help since in first gear if you hold the rearset down it wont pop out of gear. how would i check this out? i myself have owned a 87, 89, 92, 95, 98 and now a 01 gsxr750 and have never came across a problem like this. any help will be great. by the way i love these smilies this site has. never been to another forum with anything like them on it.
