OK..

Living in York, PA..home of the Harley Assembling Plant, and the international hog rally and other mundane, blah blah blah yearly rituals...it's a pain in the ass every single time these events are held. I mean, dont get me wrong, its great that they have 100,000 motorycles or better show up to support them, etc..but my god, talk about no common courtesy, no manners, and just plain being a nuisance all hours of the nite, just becuz, "they ride the only bikes in the world worth riding, and we should be proud that they support america" and " harley riders do alot for the community and charities, etc"

yeah yeah whatever, bite me!!!. :bonk: I ride japanese bikes, and damn proud of it. Mine doesnt break down every time I go on a trip, or cause the local resident retirement homes to get up in arms because my bike is too loud, etc. or wake up the little neighborhood kids when they are sleeping.

Does that mean that all non harley riders are perfect..of course not, there are plenty of a$$e$ out there on sportbikes too..but the harley rep preceedes them everywhere they go, and that just compounds the problem.
Wheelie / Stunt riding sportbikers on the highway dont help either, and if your gonna stunt, by all means, do it..just do it in a controlled environment where its safe. But if you ask any run of the mill John Q. Public resident why he doesnt like motorcycles, well over 50% of the time, its something to do with harely riders.

And there are plenty of sportbike riders that contribute to charity thru rallies and poker runs, etc..just like everybody else.

We are all motorcyclists, and we all share the same passion for 2 wheels..why do they have to be better than anybody else? get off your high horse and wave to us japanese/italian/german/ etc riders as well, once in awhile. I can bitch about that, because I do wave to, ALL motoryclists, no matter what they ride, because its common courtesy and shows respect for your fellow rider. The fact that some wont wave back and stick their noses up in the air even further when you pass them, just verifies my gripe.

ok, Im done for now.

I just love that you spend close to $20K on a bike and then have to spend another $5K voiding your warranty to make any power. :smilelol:

The best though has to be the exhaust. Nothing like a 100+dBA Harley making a whopping 100bhp (assuming they did the $5K worth of engine work) from 1450+cc's. The guy rumbling through town showing off his "powerful" ride.

Oh, wait it's the torque that counts right! At least that's what they want you to think... ;)

Nothing like a Harley to render you sterile; the vibration is enough to take all that chrome off. Also, what's the fascination with a "custom" Harley? When people say it's a custom, it's like they're viewing something special.

To each his own; I could go on for a long time about why they're not for me but who wants to hear that?

Im sure we could all make this thread go on forever and ever with our stories and thoughts...but to me it all comes down too, this fascination or dillusion as the case may be, that unless you ride a harley, your nothing but dirt under their feet, and not worth time to acknowledge, let alone talk intelligently too about anything relevant to motorcycling or the world in general.

This might be silly, but the waving thing just boggles me. I have a cruiser and a sport and I wave to everyone. when I am on my Vulcan, 99% of the other riders wave back, few exceptions of the die-hard HD'ers that actually can tell the difference. But since I have had my sport....it's completely reversed, about 99% of the cruisers don't return the gesture.

Dang, I thought it was about riding, guess I was wrong.

And now it appears everyone has something against my cruiser...haha. The HD guys hate that's it's not "American Made" and the sporties complain about it being loud, heavy and slow...man I can't win...haha. Ah well, I'll just keep on ridin and keep on :hi: no matter which one I'm on.

It's supposed to be about riding, but some peeps just refuse to see it that way..which pisses me off as well. I dont care what you ride, I'll still wave to you, out of respect to a fellow rider. I may not like or care for what you ride, but so what, its respect issue in my mind..UGH..!!

Odd that you dont get much waving from sportbike riders..I dont seem to have much of a problem with them overall...maybe just a off time for wavers..LOL

No gripes really, there are pricks in and on all sorts of vehicles. However, it's typically the leather chaps orthadontist by day biker by night types that give those guys a bad name IMO.

Not to rock the boat, but hp on a dyno derives from the torque #s. They may have a ton of torque, but it doesn't matter if your bike weighs 800lbs.

Totally american made..Yeah Right!!!

A healthy chunk of every HD is made in Japan. The electronics, brakes, etc are jap products. Not every part of a jap bike is made in japan either.
So to claim one is japanese made or American made is pointless.

Hell, even their gear & apparel isnt always made here..

Yeah they are shifting though the gears and making all that noise, then 10 mins later they pass by doing like 30mph. All that money you spend on them and you get the technology lawn mower. :loser:
I think saying that is a compliment. I mean the nice riding Exmark Lazer 60" mower I have at work will damn near do that speed, in 1 gear, in about a 30ft. It will even lay a better patch of rubber than the HD, turn better than ANYTHING! Not to mention all while cuttin the grass to look like a PGA golf coarse.

at least you get some satisfaction from riding the mower, and not just a bow-legged stance, and soar arse afterwards from the hogs!!

I have to take offense at some of those remarks!! I own an '81 sturgis model and it handles very well and will snap your head back. I ride it when I have time to cruise around. My neighbor next door has a '79 super glide that will take your lunch money away if you aren't careful, but the baddest I have seen is my neighbor across the street. The retired Sgt Mjr has a 70's HD factory cafe' bike that will jet you on the straights and hang in there on the twisties. Not all HD's are lane hogging boat anchors, just the newer ones
