[RLLOVER]

Newbie here.
I've been looking around for a site that might help me get back on two wheels.
I've done some reading here and at some other sites but no one had a question for a beginners to novice bike that fit someone 6'3" and 250 lbs.

Long story short.
While in the Navy I lived in Kaleefornia had a Katana 750 than a GSXR 750 (I wasn't totally competant on the GSXR but I lived. Thru no help of my own.) I took the mandatory for military personel AMA Riders course, and plan on taking another class after I get the new wheels. Good times.

In my youth I had a Suzuki 50, a Yamaha YZ 80, and 125. I've been riding off and on since I was 6.

Recently I rode a friends Honda F4. It was stupid fast compared to my old Gixer. Now he has a 1000 that he wants me to ride. Maybe later.

I am looking for a sportier bike that I can take the wife on, after a few months of getting used to the ride and riding in general . (I hate seeing new riders with passengers.)

I am 6'3" and weight in at 250. The wife is 5'10" and 140. I don't want a Harley clone, but I don't want her stuck on the back with her knees in her butt either. I have friends with Harleys and Honda's so I am not looking to fit in either crowd. I just want something like my Mustangs, sporty and comfortable.

I was looking at Katana's and Interceptors. I've been out of bikes for so long I don't know the pro's or con's of either anymore, so even if you think a thought is elementary, that's about right on course for me.

First off :welcome: RLLOVER :twfrox: The Katana is a great beginner and medium bike to start back up on. You made a wise choice not to jump on your buddies 1000 just yet, that's just a power house, and you shouldn't just jump on one.

Welcome to TWF !! You'd do well on a Kat, and since you've rode one before, ur ahead of the game.

As you probably know, Kats are very easy to ride, look good, easy to maintain, easy to mod, bullet proof, and very forgiving bikes.

I've always had a thing for the ceptors too, definately a sweet bike, comfortable as all get out. They can be a bit expensive to upkeep though so keep that in mind, but they are awesome bikes.

I am 6' 5" and am slightly over 250...I ride '04, F4i... It would work for you, but, if you try to ride 2up with your wife, you are over weight limit for bike and tires...I don't know of any sport bikes with a limit over 350 lbs...besides SHE wants to get her OWN bike...keep saying this over and over out loud until it happens... :dthumb:

Rllovr, I really enjoyed my Kat, however, you may want the extra C's of the Interceptor, so that when you are 2 up, sluggish throttle response won't be as noticeable !

1200 Bandit or Honda 919 would also be a good choice. If you're going two-up alot you want something with good torque in the midrange. Kat would probably do it also. My GF and I with gear are about 325 and my Bandit 600 does OK. Definately not a thrill ride but I don't downshift on hills and the suspension takes it fairly well. I'mpartial to the naked/half-faired bikes but they usually have the midrange you need for two-up riding. :cheers:

:scratch: Is that not the 954? 919 ended production for the UK market in 2001. 2002 saw the 954.... Now its the full 1k... - a couple of cc's :mc3:
