Hundreds of Professional Hockey players in our very own nation are going to
be locked out, living at well below the seven-figure salary level. And as
if that weren't bad enough they could be deprived of their life-giving pay
for several months, possibly longer, as a result of the coming lockout
situation.

But you can help!

For only $20,835 a month, about $694.50 a day (that's less than the cost of
a large screen projection TV) you can help an NHL player remain
economically viable during his time of need. This contribution by no means
solves the problem as it barely covers the annual minimum salary, but it's
a start, and every little bit will help!

Although $700 may not seem like a lot of money to you, to a hockey player
it could mean the difference between spending the lockout golfing in
Florida or on a Mediterranean cruise.

For you, seven hundred dollars is nothing more than a month's rent, half a
mortgage payment, or a month of medical insurance, but to a hockey player,
$700 will partially replace his daily salary.

Your commitment of less than $700 a day will enable a player to buy that
home entertainment center, trade in the year-old Lexus for a new Ferrari,
or enjoy a weekend in Rio.

HOW WILL I KNOW THAT I'M HELPING?

Each month, you will receive a complete financial report on the player you
sponsor. Detailed information about his stocks, bonds, 401(k), real estate,
and other investment holdings will be mailed to your home. Plus, upon
signing up for this program, you will receive an unsigned photo of the
player lounging during the lockout on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean
(for a signed photo, please include an additional $150). Put the photo on
your refrigerator to remind you of other peoples' suffering.

HOW WILL HE KNOW I'M HELPING?

Your NHL player will be told that he has a SPECIAL FRIEND who just wants to
help in a time of need. Although the player won't know your name, he will
be able to make collect calls to your home via a special operator in case
additional funds are needed for unforeseen expenses.

YES, I WANT TO HELP!

I would like to sponsor a locked out NHL player.

My preference is (check below):

[ ] Forward
[ ] Defenseman
[ ] Goaltender
[ ] Entire team (Please call our 900 number to ask for the cost of a
specific team - $10 per minute)
[ ] Jaromir Jagr (Higher cost: $32,000 per day)

Please charge the account listed below $694.50 per day for the duration of
the lockout. Please send me a picture of the player I have sponsored, along
with an Jaromir Jagr 2001 Income Statement and my very own Bob Goodenow
(Executive Director of the NHLPA player's Union) pin to wear proudly on my
hat (include $80 for hat).

Just got it.. lol.. Hell yeah I will back you. As far as Jagr goes the only contribution he is getting from me is a through teabagging.. MFP! :cursin:
I received that on email today and thought I must pass this on due to our recent conversation and sorry I couldn't find the thread "there was almost a hockey season" so I started a new one. I hope the lockout puts them all out of a job and they actually have to work for a living. Unfortunately due to their past fame, etc. they will all get cushy jobs from people that feel sorry for them, adore them, etc. and put us little people out of some more jobs! :cursin: Can we NEVER WIN!!!!!!!!!!! :cursin: Like I said before hockey is dead to me. These clowns have gone too far - you can take hockey and baseball and send it to a communist country or something. I will support my local IHL team and college teams! Go Whalers and Go Blue! As far as the NHL - GO BLOW!

Thats more like it :yesnod:

I like watching hockey as much as the next guy, im not an avid fan like some, but I do watch it, and am in tune w/ the pro athletes salaries these days..and I mean, Im all for getting paid what your worth, but when is it ever going to end???!! when is too much, just too freekin much!! Probably never..cuz if team A doesnt pay you, team B will..and in this case, eventually somebody will give in and they'll be back to work, but not until they've thoroughly pissed off every last hockey fan on the planet... and then everybody will gripe for awhile, but they'll still go to the games after the owners raise the ticket prices to compensate for all the xtra cash they'll be dishing out. :bash:

Here is where I am coming from - I have been a Red Wings fan from birth. I went to the games when they sucked. I love hockey above all other sports. It is truly an awesome game. However, life in hockey town as of late has been jaded at best. Playoff tickets = $150 first round. $200 second round. $250 or $300 third round and $400 final round. WTF!?!?!??! Do they not understand that the average family of four would spell like 2 weeks salary for one fricking playoff game in the final round?? Lately the fans in Detroit suck - why you ask? Or maybe you are like Mud STFU for once - well today is not your lucky day - why? Because all the fans that can afford to go to a game in Detroit are tickets bought by businesses that can still afford it. Then you get some idiots down in the sacred JLA that walk around while the puck is in play - ask me when half time is, don't even know they are at a hockey game and they drool all over everything because they are TOO F&&&ING STUPID AND HOW THE HELL DO THESE PEOPLE MAKE IT THROUGH LIFE!??!??! HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR SUPPORT AN IDIOT PROGRAM THEY ARE ON AND WALK THROUGH LIFE AS AN COMPLETE MORON WHILE SOMEONE ELSE THAT HAS TOO MUCH DAMN MONEY FOOTS THE BILL????? JHC on a popsickle stick. Hockey in Detroit was already half f***ed so let's have a lockout and send it on home. If God can't help us then Harold must. I say bring back Snepts and beat the snot out of some of these wimpering primodonna hockey players to get the game back to where it should be pre-Gretkzy where it was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and if a pint of blood wasn't on the ice per period then it was a night off for the team. Let's get back to the basics and get the real players that want to play for the love of the game back in it. This country is so back asswards. Let's pay the people that do the least the most amount of money.. This goes for all entertainers - music, sports, tv, movies, etc. We are all sheep and headed towards the final slaughter. Did I say God help us? Maybe some other day when I haven't gone on such a long tangent, i.e. I am much more heavily medicated, I will discuss with you my master plan and why you should vote for me.. lol..

MudPuppy for President...Rock on!!! :dthumb:

thats one of the great things about minor league sports, be it hockey, baseball, arena league football, etc...these guys are out there kicking it hard everyday in practice and on gameday for less per year then the average pro athelete gets in a gamecheck!!! They appreciate what its all about, and love the sport and respect it for what is..a true gift and honor to be a part of...they appreciate the fans and are usually always willing to take part in autograph sessions, etc.

There are some pro atheletes with this thinking, ones that appreciate the game and what it stands for...but even then, they are still willing to go along with the others (for the most part, although there are exceptions).

And here I sit..worked overtime, took time away from my family, to be able to afford to go see my most recent pro game!! :nonod:

I'd vote for you in a heartbeat. Vote MudPuppy. :)

I agree with you on that Matt and MudPuppy. They are more worried about getting that extra half mill or more and not about the die hard fans who are suffering the most. I do appreciate the ones who are not all about the money and more willing to talk and sign balls, bats, photos and what ever to the fans wants signed. It should be more about them then the player them selfs. If the fans stop filling in the seats and watching the games, there will not be and money to be made to give to the players.

So I say we should strike and stop going to the games and watching them and see how they fell when the franchsies don't have the money to pay them there over priced salary. :)

Oh yeah it is on! I am definately on strike. I am wicha on that one brother! The NHL is DEAD to me, DEAD I tell ya! I will implore everyone I see to ban the NHL from their spending - no tickets, no jerseys, no memorabila, no watching it on TV - NOTHING! I am getting ready to sell my complete collection of Special Edition 1997 Magazines from when the Wings won the cup. That is my way of spitting in the face of the NHL and taking something back for me, the fan.

I absolutely agree - we should stop paying their gd salaries and see how they like that. Unfortunately most people will be mildy irritated by the strike and avoid hockey for a bit and then gladly hand over a week's pay to go to the game again a short time later. They are no where near the magnitude of fan that I am. I was there for the 60 footer that Yzerman slapped in past Fuhr to beat the Blues in overtime. Hell I might have been in my living room but I guided that gd puck by sheer willpower to the back of the net. I have broke over $1,000 in tv remotes, slammed countless tvs to the concrete and punched more holes in drywall (got to watch out for those studs - DOH!) than you will find in a bulk food package of swiss cheese during playoff season. I WAS THERE WHEN THE PUCK HIT THE FAN IN DENVER. I was not only a fan I was at one with the game. So yeah I will stop watching, stop going to games and in turn hockey will lose its biggest fan. Please fly the US and Canadian flags at half mast next week.. lol.. Seriously though I am all for a fan strike - I would dedicate some serious effort to this if anyone has some ideas how we, the fan, can send a message loud and clear to the players, NHL, etc. on how this is completely UNACCEPTABLE and we will not stand for it.

Oh yeah and remember Mudpuppy in 08! lol..

and as so eloquently stated by our future president,

"Unfortunately most people will be mildy irritated by the strike and avoid hockey for a bit and then gladly hand over a week's pay to go to the game again a short time later."

and the NHL knows this, as does the NBA & MLB..they are willing to take some heat for awhile, because in the end, they'll still be laughing all the way to the bank because the US population is so sports oriented, and as double calls them, sheep :D

the NHL and the rest, should really take a look at how to run a pro sports organization from the NFL!! now the NFL players make a ton of money, no doubt, and are obviously grossly overpaid same as the other pro athletes, but the NFL is the most respected organization in the world..LITERALLY! They arent perfect by any means, but how many players strikes/lockouts have their been in the NFL in the last 20 years ?

1. That is how many strikes they have had. Pretty damn good if you ask me. The NFL by far is a model example for other sports. But does the NHL pay attention and try to follow a successful pattern? Hell no, they try to re-invent the wheel. This is the second strike in 10 years and totally unacceptable.

Another good example is Nascar. This is my favorite. So you want to be a Nascar driver son? Get a team, get some sponsors and if you have enough $ and talent you too can be a successful Nascar driver. Wow, what a concept! You mean you have to actually perform every week to get paid? You can't pull a Charlie Rodgers or a Charlie Batch or a Jamal Anderson pull in a huge paycheck while you are on IR? Damn skippy boy. BTW you got a purty mouth boy.. lol.. Anyways I think all sports should operate on this premise. For the most part the drivers in Nascar respect the fans - sure there are still some a-holes like Tony Stewart and Rusty Wallace that are TV's golden boys but say f*** the fans - most drivers are all about the fan because they know the fans are their bread and butter and usually they are a fan of the sport as well. This shows up huge when you sell out 250,000+ seats to every race - what other sport does that? Um, none.

I think too many times, more often than not, players forget where they came from and all the money and fame, etc. get their egos out of check. I was sick for a week last year when I saw an ESPN special that showed Philly's defenseman - what the hell is his name? Brasheur? Something like that. Anyways it showed him driving a brand new Ferrari to practice. I mean you know these guys make huge money but the visual just put 2 + 2 together and I thought this is sick - this mfr plays a game that he wants to play anyways for a living and I work my ass off helping support his sorry ass at a job I hate and I drive a f**king Mercury that I still owe on with the ball joints duct taped on praying that they will hold up long enough to pay off the car so I can go buy another one to start the vicious cycle over again. Something just didn't sit right with that picture - brand new shiny yellow Ferrari, $10,000 suit, all smiles - hell I would be smiling too. That picture has never left me and with this lockout it is very vivid now.

And damnit that is it - I am changing my signature to add "Mudpuppy for Prez in 08!" lol..

If I wasn't so damned tired I'd really get into this, especially since my beloved Red Wings (see my screen name) were named in vain. :cursin: ;)

Hockey is broken, plain and simple. Both sides are being stubborn, but hockey can't continue to lose money. The irony of the situation is that the owners want a hard cap to cut their losses. Yet, they lock out their players. Lesser of two evils? Maybe, but it's not good for the game.

It's [potentially] good for the business long term, but not the game. Unfortunately the fans are only involved in half of that equation.

for as much as I think nascar being somewhat tedious, going around and around and around and around...turn to the right for once damnit!!! That is a sport where the fans are loyal to the end, and yeah, u r right, the majority of the drivers do respect their fans..thats because the majority of the fans are hardworking, middle income (or lower) families who spend their hard earned money on merchandise, tickets to races, etc..(oh wait, isnt that about the same type of population that watch the majority of major sports in general. :bash: )...and yet the nascar organization as a whole treats the fans with respect for the most part, and keeps it a family oriented event (as much as possible) each time there is an race..and to boot..their race season is longer than everyother sport by far, then the drivers take a couple months off, and they are back at it again...vs everybody else you work for 4-5 months, then take off for 6 months to "recoup your body for the next season" :puke: . you are making countless millions per season, get your a$$ out there and play!!!

oh and double, you'll need to chose a running mate for 08..so you better get on that..you cant rule the world without a sidekick! ;)
