Hi everyone.
I have been on corvette forum for years and I recognize many of the names on here... its kinda cool. Any way, I have been modding vettes and other cars for years, have done a number of track event, drags, auto X etc ...

I just sold the vette because I bought a new condo in the city and had no where to keep the car. So now im looking to get back into a bike to scratch the itch,... also its easy to park the bike in the city.

I had a couple of dirt bikes in the past and have been aro0und bikes for a while, but i never bothered to do much research on the actual bike. I think i want either an Honda F4, or a 929... But I am also looking at GSXR's. I want something with a ton of power so i dont have to go digging for it later. I want something that nible and responsive, and also fairly easy to ride.

Price wise I dont mind spending, as long as im getting a good deal, I would really love to be around the 3-4K mark but i can go all the way up to $10K

Im gonna poke around here before I start asking all the questions that have been asked 1000s of times before, but if you have any suggestions please let me know

If power is what your after. You need to stay away from Honda. They have plenty of power on tap but, you will have to dig for it.
You didn't say what kind of ridding you intend to do.
Do you want to go fast fast in a straight line?
Do you want to go fast in the corners? Or both?
Do you need a bike to travel on.
I/We just need more info before I/we could recommend anything.

IMO, and on paper, if you want the all around package, it seems like the 05 GSXR 1000 is the top dog (might be more than $10k though). From what Ive read its got the speed, power, and handling. If you want to know more, ask Jeeps, he has one. BTW, Where abouts are you from? :twfrox:

First off, good pre-planning I just hope you don't screw up the exacution of the plan... a newbie to street riding with a big bore bike is a dangerous combo. Not to say you can't do it well...just stats tell us...ya know...

It sounded you were looking for a used bike. That way if you do show the stats right, at least it isn't brand new. I disagree with Jeeps. Honda puts out good stuff, regardless if its a street bike, a mower, car, generator, or anything else. You just can't go wrong with a Honda! The 929 or the 954 should provide more than enough power to wet your lips! (if you're a guy that phrase is a little less preverted  )

But don't worry, that's just my :2cents: and by the end of this thread you'll probably have enough to make a buck or two...

Hi everyone
I have had a good amout riding time, I used to ride my roomates bikes on a daily basis. Im leaning more towards a used bike, My buddy has a 93 gsxr 1100 that he has modded the hell out of and that thing moves. So im thinking of buying something in the $4k range for now and maybe upgrading to a new bike when i actually know what the H im doing and looking for. I dont need a total beginers bike, but i would like one that I can grow into, my biggest thing is I need the power to be there when i ask for it. I wont be racing or anything like that, just buzzing around town, and some mid range crusies here and there.

BTW im from Chicago :yikes:

A 91 or later Kawasaki ZX-11. Fun and exhilarating. Runs the 1/4 in 10.5, but it's comfortable, a real smoothie on the highway, and feels like a 750. With all the money you save, you can upgrade the tires, brakes and suspension. Plus you will have plenty left for gas. You can thank me later.

Ok... So i spend the last 48 researching bikes and getting feedback. The best feedback i have recieved were from freinds of freinds who all know me well and were at one point in similar situations. I think my bike is going to be a 00-02 Honda CBR 929 RR. Tame and nimble with a ton of power.. comfortable on the highway and lots of parts at reasonalble prices, Plus ive seen several in my price range

How about some feedback on this one

Not a bad choice at all - your probably going to want to get a custom seat though as the Honda has the least comfortable seat out there. :luck:

Tame, adj. 1. changed from the wild or savage state; 2. tractable, docile, or submissive. That doesn't describe the 929. Get ham-fisted with the 929 and it will be sideways in the blink of an eye.

I assume your friends are under 50 and don't know about older bikes. Almost every sport bike made in the last five years has gotten smaller, lighter, and peaker. Good if you only ride on a race track, but not much fun on the street. I would still get an older bike with a broad power curve.

The bike you describe your after is mine and I'm not selling.

But Welcome to TWF and good luck in your search. Get up some pics as soon as you get riding.

Monster... I like your choice and I think you'll be happy with it. But NW is telling you is the voice of reason. The big decision then is... which shoulder do you listen to? :D

Damn. Shan did you forget to turn off the new members again? Another one leaked through. Damnit Jim I'm a doctor not a bike forum moderator. We will just have to skin this one alive and find a corn field in Vegas somewhere to stash the body. :yikes:

Just kidding. Welcome to the board.

This is a little bit different then those, you get something a little too much and you could wind up dead. Be smart and don't think with a lead wrist.

well as for the 929 goes, not a bad choice. MY buddy had one and he definitely liked it. And they are very inexpensive for a bigger bike. :luck:

It sounds like you have some experience under your belt. Lets hope so because thats a big bike. My friend that has one has been riding for 10 years (mostly 600cc bikes) and got his hands on this, and definitely had to keep himself in check. He kept saying, "dont get a liter bike until you have some experience under your belt, cause this thing has [email protected]"

Keep the rubber side down man :dthumb:
