Now twisty, can't you play nice? If you don't have anything nice to say...

To each his own, Buell certainly has its following.

Im just stating facts. I love twins but buell has been a disapointment. I would love for the American brand succeed but as long a Harley has their hand in the mixing bowl, it will never work.

The V-Rod engine was codeveloped with Porsche. I think that's a move in the right direction.

Im excited to see what they can do with the V-Rod engine in there. I was sittin on the XB12r at the IMS, I was impressed with its size and the way the weight seemed to just not be there. It was small, light and flickable...I am interested as to the future of these. Sure seemed like it would be fun as hell to romp around on one o those..

AAAAHHH the Buell sucks. The motor is built on tech form the 1950's and they are so slow that AMA, CCS and WERE have to give them their class because they keep getting a$$'s handed to them. So go polish you crome and try again later.
I have to agree with Twisty.. Sorry the truth hurts.. As long as Harley, (HD=Hundred Dollars - something you dish out everytime you go to the HD dealer which for most is once a week to fix their POS bikes), has their hand in it they will never produce a bike that even pales in comparsion to Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, etc. And what is up with the belt drive? Belts SUCK.. That is why my buddy who drags this Harley spent lots of money putting a chain on this bike - he put kevlar belts on and SNAP! He has like 10 of them in his garage from snapping them at the track.. So he switched to a chain.. That belt shyt is a joke, period..

The Buell effort in AMA Superbike this year will hopefully trickle some tech down to the production models.

The attached article seems to show otherwise as far as comparisons go. Personally, I could care less what type of bike anyone rides, as long as the person is having fun riding it. Buells don't suck... they are just different
I ride a Buell, and I ride with a bunch of guys who ride R6's, R1's, GSXR's, and so on. Now, my lack of experience in comparison to them keeps me from staying close with them, but I would bet that the Buell will keep up with them with an equally experienced (to them) rider. The buell is a corner master, not a drag bike.

I never said it was a drag bike.. I was using my friend's drag bike as an example of why the belt is no good - belts are weak, chains are strong - bottom line.. I disagree with you saying the Buell will keep up with the R6s, R1s, GSXRs, etc. - look at AMA like Twisty said - they can't keep up, period.. They get lapped like 5 times in a 10 lap race.. But besides all that if you ride a Buell and you are happy with it then more power to you.. To each his own.. I prefer to go the "jap" bike route and wouldn't ride anything but Yamaha.. My opinion is the American bike companies haven't stepped up to the plate yet so I wouldn't consider that route.. If they could get rid of that belt and improve their performance and reliability I would consider them before any jap scrap, but they don't and probably never will, so I won't..

The VRod motor will be an improvement, but remember the HD VR1000 race bike. It rarely finished a race and that was a factory effort! HD, give eric buell a clean sheet of paper and allow him to use NO parts bin parts.

I didn't mean to imply that you were comparing the buell to a drag bike... I was just making the point that it was a good corner carver. And I agree, the chain is better than the belt. I have been contemplating changing mine over to a chain drive. The belt does make me a little nervous sometimes. I give it a good looking over before every ride.
On the track, yes, the buell is not competitive with the japs and italians, but with your every day street riders, I would say they are a bit more even juding from the article. And in the future, I hope to be able to improve my riding skills enough to keep up with the folks I ride with.
My first bike was a 77 Suzuki GS550, then I moved on to an 87 GSXR750. I loved that thing, and still wish I had it. The in-line 4 is a great motor, as well as the jap V-twins. They just make a more speed friendly engine setup; shorter stroke so they can get higher rpms, and it works great.
I think Buell would have definately been a better bike had Eric Buell not gone back to Harley. He should have just kept Buell his own so he could have more control.

I can see your upset, your name is twisty, but when it comes to the twisties, my bike eats yours up. :bthorse:

dude, I can except some critisism towards my bike, but dont be ignorant. yes the bike has its downfalls (engine, belt drive), but still it has its charm. the thing has just so much torque so low, whenever I race any jap bikes, they dont think im being serious because they cant hear me revving the hell out of my engine to take off. it just takes off at near idle and then im gone. ive riden jap bikes before and they are damn fast, my friends R1 is just insane. but I can keep up with him until about 120 miles no problem. in the end, unless you do lots of track days, buells are just more fun to ride.

WOW, the newbie beer, is calling out Twisty!!!

Beer, I say bring it to the GAP the week of Memorial Day and we'll see what your Buell has!

But I'm with most of these people. Buells are OK bikes! I like that most people that ride them have their own special taste in bikes. Getting a bike with some soul!

But to say that they are going to compete with the various Jap bikes, is speaking garbage! It's like you're :puke: in your words. :sorry:

Yes, they have good amounts of torque, but so does a TL1000R and it will eat any Buell!

Remember this... numbers are numbers... wieght, hp, torque to get power to weight ratio... that doesn't lie! What happens when you do this???? Anybody know???

I do... the Beull comes up short. It's just the truth..

Do they have some good ideas!! Heck ya! The fuel tank and oil tank in frame & swingarm!!! That just rocks! But it just isn't enough!!

The best thing for Buell is to have another company get into it and dump HD!! HD produces nothing but oil dripping junk!! I WILL NEVER own a HD!! NEVER!!

Yes, Shan, the V-rod was a good step. But that's a cruiser and not a sportbike... if we're going to debate the bikes, let's stay on track with the sportbikes...

:sorry: if somebody doesn't like my opinion...but it's just my :2cents:

hey gas man, I can except that. I can respect other peoples opinion(and can listen to reason). but I just hate when people say my bike sucks. if you read that article, it shows how much potential buell has. granted the ol harley twin isnt helping, of coarse in the straight aways any litre bike will beat mine. but when it comes to street use, the buell is one of the funnest bikes on the road. not to mention, it really does rip in the corners, ive never felt so comfident. I hate people who just comment on the buells cause everyone who owns a jap bike thinks they suck.

twisty, read the article, then you can make an educated comment and I will have more respect for what you say.

I am considering the new Buell with Vrod motor as a replacement for the Monster.
I am tempted to bring the Monster to the Gap just to show some of you what there about.
The current Buell can stomp my 96 M900 in speed and with the added ground clearances in handling. I have ridden several Buell's and was very impressed.
With that being said!
NO a buell will never keep up with a R6 or GSXR etc. at race pace. (it wasn't built to do so)
I can ride the Monster faster than most can ride a GSXR in the corners.

And Beer, I doughty a factory Buell with all the extra go fast goodies on it would ever have a chance in Hell of keeping up with a R1 past about 40mph.
I am not knocking you bike! Im even considering getting one but, I have ridden all of them even the Blast so Im speaking from experience!

No, I have no doubt that the Buells are a fun bike to ride. The torque and the short wheel base would add up to some major fun. Glad to see that you and I understand each other. I won't just straight up bash any bike, I may come off that way, but I have my reasons...

Keep the shinny side up!!

Sure they can handle but there motor lacks the power to get out the way of itself. They are cute little bike but they cant hang with us big boys. They have a 1200CC motor that gets owened by 600cc bikes on the track. My opinion is that it's harley and it falls under the Harley way of thinking. Heavy, slow and old tech. After the AMA Buell gets a$$ whooped, probley getting lapped many many times, I will repost to this tread and we will all have a good giggle.

Keep your respect, I dont need it.
