Here is a quote from another thread that you should find every thing you need in the link.:dthumb:
The year is different but every thing is close enough that only wrench and filter size may be different.

That big price from your dealer was probable for the first service including the overall all check up of the bike. Not just the oil change.

First off :welcome: I myself have an 01zx6r. I pretty much had the same questions as you did. First off, IF you have the right tools, changing the oil is pretty much cake. I had 14k on the bike when I got it, and switched to synthetic. I recently posted a maintenance site Ive been using for my 01zx6r. The site uses the 2000zx6r as reference. Its the same bike though as my 01 and obviously the same as your 2000. It covers a bunch of stuff, including changing your oil, with pictures and everything

here is the link click here!!!

just click the ZX6R link and then go to "Routine Maintenance" it should be there....check out the other stuff too, its got a crapload of info.

click here just for the oil change page

:luck: good luck with all this stuff.

Slam, you should goto www.kawiforums.com/forum for your questions on your 636. As for oil change, you're gonna have to:
1. remove ur lower side panel
2. unscrew the oil filter & drain all the old oil
3. install new oil filter
4. pour in new oil on the rear brake side
5. lift the bike so it stands in the center and check for oil level (you have to stand it up to see the appropriate level, checking it while it's on a stand won't work either)
6. put the lower fairing on.

*One word of caution, even though some people swear by using a torque wrench on the filter, i would just do it by hand because I've heard a lot of stories where people over torqued the filter and stripped the screws which can be a PITA to fix.

Added: a link with step by step & pictures of 1st service procedures (including oil change) for 04 636

try looking in the owners manual. I know my gsxr and r1 both had instructions on how to do some things like changing the oil and removing wheels.

You left out,
Remove the drain plug to drain old oil from engine.
and
Reinstall drain plug.

Should have went between step 3 and 4

Oops, I guess you can tell I suck at giving instruction now. It has been a while since I did my last oil change anyway. THanks for the reminder

yeah, they want me to charge $150 to do the whole 600miles check up on all the stuff, i wish i knew what they were doing so i could do it all my self.
They are supposed to go over the bike with a fine tooth comb (check all nuts and bolts, listen for strange noises and make any needed adjustments) but, that depends on the shop.

That is a pretty normal fee. I know the dealer I'm getting the BDM from throws the first service in for free.
