this hasn't been an issue for me yet, but i was wondering. how do you clean your gear? after riding in the hot summer sun, does it get a funk to it at all? can you dry clean it or something? or do you just let it air dry? or isn't this a problem because you don't sweat when riding fast? just curious for future reference. i guess i could read the care instructions on the tag, if there are any. :dthumb:

Mesh gear I just take out the armor, soak in water/detergent then handwash.

Leather I just clean the surface with leather cleaner to get the bugs off and take out the liner if it's removeable. That's about it. Good thing leather has it's own scent that sort of masks the stink on the jacket.

I don't own textile stuff but I suppose you can dryclean? I'd just read the tag.

Its is highly recommended that you read the manufactures instructions on cleaning. The textile stuff is the pain. If you was a water proof jacket/pants. They loose there water proof abilities.:cursin:
If the gear isn't water proof to start with. Just wash and air dry. If its Your not supposed to do anything except wipe off the out side. You can off remove the removable liners (if that's no the water proof section) and was them separately. The leather stuff is easy to take care of.

I take my one piece leathers to a dry cleaner... i can't remember how much it was, but it didn't really clean it that well. the black marks from crashing still showed up.

I used murphey's saddle soap on previous leather gear.

For leather, I use Lexol leather cleaner and Lexol leather conditioner. A couple years ago, Motorcycle Consumer News tested leather cleaners and conditioners including sno-seal, neatsfoot oil and a dozen others. Lexol was the best.

I remove all padding and wash my mesh and textile on delicate. I will then either hang it to air dry or use the dryer which as an "Air Dry" (cool air) option. I have a JR mesh/leather (bought last) but haven't really cleaned it yet. I'll probably get some leather cleaner for the leather (sleeves/shoulders) and maybe hand wash the mesh.

What about gloves?

I know when I played roller hockey durring the summer my gloves only took a week to start smelling like funk... and with in a month... I tried cleaning them... but I think it was like a bandade for a head shot at that point... so I had to toss them...
