A man on a stolen motorcycle was killed Thursday night when he crashed into a parked sports utility vehicle, Houston police said.
The victim, 44, was travelling at a high rate of speed about 9:30 p.m. in a residential area in the 1800 block of Palm near Almeda.
"He lost control of the motorcycle, according to witnesses, and ran into the back of a parked (Chevrolet) Suburban," said HPD accident investigator Rosalie Stafford.
The victim, whose identity was withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, sustained massive head injuries from the crash. He was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital, police said.
The 1994 Suzuki was reported stolen Wednesday. Although the owner later arrived after the fatal wreck, the motorcycle had to be towed from the scene.
"It's pretty much totalled," said HPD officer J.D. Broussard. "There's nothing he can do with it."
Police at the scene could not confirm whether the man who died Thursday was responsible for the theft.
