It's done...

I placed a bid on Ebay for a copper '03 SV1000s with the full fairings, 1018 miles on it. After hearing all of the concerns concerning litre bikes and newbies, I was almost kinda hoping that someone would snipe me at the end and outbid me. It didnt happen, I won the bike for $5200. That is almost 1k below the NADA retail value.

Even though I am totally aware that its not recommended for new riders to start off with a litre bike, Im VERY happy about this bike. Its a great color, a great price and a great bike. Knowing my personality, as well as being 38 with a family, i feel confident that im going to ride inside my limits, (but then you never know your limits till you exceed them right?) my plan is to ride carefully around my neighborhood and in the walmart and HEB parking lots, until i know how the bike handles and get a grip (literally) on throttle control. I will take it slowly. Ive gotten a lot of advice from several forums to take it easy and be smart with the throttle control, practice practice practice, wear gear, take the MSF course. Ive also heard that you usually get into trouble with your bike when you dont respect it like you should. Trust me, I RESPECT this bike. I plan to keep all the fairings in factory condition with no road add ons (scratches, rocks, etc).

So that being said, what is the difference between a v-twin litre bike and a I4 litre bike? what should I expect?

First of all...congrats...great bike. Love that color. Now...the difference is power. Now I guess you could say you made a better decision with the twin 1k over an I4 1k. I think the twin will have power similar to a 750. Still a very big bike for a beginner, but for your own sake, and your families...dont ever ride without the proper gear....every time.

Get good gear and wear it and def. take the MSF course. When your out riding that sucker enjoy...and think about your family everytime you wanna do something silly. :luck:

and POST PICS !!!!

Thats the part that I am comfortable about:
1) Im not a huge risk taker in life
2) I will get gear and always have it on
3) Have already taken MSF course

Here are the pics from the Ebay site:

Definitely will take pics once i get it home!

Nice bike. First thing you need to do, get rid of the snow shovel fender and get a fender eliminator. I suggest two types: the cool hot bodies undertail kit, which gets rid of the tail lights and add neat little LED strips to replace them on the undertail, this probably isn't as safe but it looks cool. The second type is just a regular fender eliminator from Hamicad, still looks a lot better than the snow shovel.

If you do decide to go with the undertail, I also would suggest some flush mount LED front turn signals. Here are all the links.

Hot Bodies Undertail:

Hamicad fender eliminator:

Flush mount front turn signals:

Finally, if you want the rear seat cowl, gel seat, or other suzuki factory accessories, Ron Ayers seems to be the cheapest place to get them. There site is http://www.ronayers.com/catalogs/sga/type.cfm?secid=1
The also have great prices on replacement oem parts.

I have the Hamicad Fender Eliminator. It's very well built. I like it because it uses all the factory lighting, so my front & rear turn signals still match. I don't have a fairing, though. So the front turn signals don't stick way out like yours do.

If you go with the Hamicad, spend the extra $20 or so and get the stainless steel model.

Dude thats a awesome looking bike!!!

I agree with everyone here. It sounds like you have the understanding about bikes and how you need to respect them. Gear and MSF course are a must and sounds like youre on your way to both. That is a beautiful bike man.

Worse comes to worse where you dont feel like a litrebike is for you, you could easily turn around and sell it and buy a smaller cc bike. sounds like you got an awesome deal on it!

:luck:

Sweet ride. I've been drooling over those for awhile now. Just got my Bandit paid for and can't swallow the payment right now but I'm green with envy. Congrats on the new ride. Just go easy, as those twins are torque monsters.
