:withstupi and what did you start out on mister???
I WAS AGREEING WITH YA!
but since you asked! :jacked:
well I started on a 500cc that was a friends that I rode for about 3 months... then got the SV... and had to sell it 3 months later... now it's my ZZR600... I'd have gotten an SV if I hadn't gotten such a good deal on the bike :neen:

so you settled on the Kawi? LOL
not really settled... more like the deal was too good to pass up. Though knowing what I know now about the dealer... I'd have passed:wbs:

on a side note I have riden it in it's previous form the 02 ZX6r... it was my ex girlfriends bike... but only a couple times... the power was nice... but as she was only 5'4" the bike was lowered so I'll doubt the handleing will be the same... ok... :jacked: over

jeez. i started riding street bikes on a kawi kz1000. that was my dads, he said i could ride it while i had my permit until i got my own. Then i got a Driving To Endanger on it, so I wasnt allowed to ride it anymore.

then i rode a friends 929, fell in love, and began my mission to get my own. two years later i have two, the one i found and the one my friend let me ride..i bought it off him cuz he kept crashing it, and didnt want him to die.

I disagree with saying 500's is the max you should get for newbies. 650 twins should be included in there, like SVs and the new Ninja.

I disagree w/ the 650's being good for newb's. If you have zero experience...the 650 is still too big. But most newbs dont listen to advice of experienced riders anyway...and most of us are giving hypocritical advice on beginners bikes.:2cents:
I'm on my first bike now, a 650 twin. No problems here. As a matter of fact, I'm already confident that I could handle something bigger. But, I love my SV. :dthumb:

The bottom line is most total newbs don't know what they are getting into. An SV or the Kawi aren't necessarily 'slow'. Most, not all, newbs do dumb things. We all do. Like I've said in another thread...ego gets in the way. Do you want to ride a 250 or a liter bike. 1000 sounds tougher. Doods who are down with that are looking to impress (ladies, fellas, whatever).

And some can handle the power... but the stats show differently when it comes to the majority. Especially that so many young guys are able to get "yesterdays" liter bikes for like $3K-$5K. Hence the other reason why so many are wadding them and giving all sportbike riders a bad rap!

The SV650 twin is nothing compared to a new 600. The new 600's will smoke a 650 twin. So I think the SV650 twin is a great bike to start out on...hell I did then jumped up to a R1. Maybe I should have went to a new 600 instead of the 1000 but I grabbed a great deal that I couldn't pass up, and the R1 was always my dream bike...so I got it. I'm just going to take it slow for a while until I get use to all the power.

yah on my post i put 250's and 500's for total noObs, and 600's and 650's for people with lots of dirtbike experience and/or some road time.

but for someone who doesnt even grasp the concepts yet, you need something more forgiving.
