Yamahas new M1 has an all-new in-line 4 cyclinder, 5-valve per cylinder engine developing over 200PS. The M1 code following Yamaha’s traditional YZR race prototype prefix stands for Mission One. . The chassis is a direct development from that of the YZR500 two-stroke GP bike[Deltabox], featuring an adjustable head stem and swingarm pivot, the major distinction being the geometry design due to the different engine and strengthened swingarm. The M1 was already under development towards the latter part of 2000 and has proven to have better acceleration and higher top-end than the YZR500 due to the smoother power delivery. This also means longer tyre-life, every team and rider's dream.
