Hey All,

It's been about a 4 month hiatus for me but I'm back on 2 as of yesterday  Still need some parts, but those'll come soon enough.

How's everything going around the shop here? Everyone still in one piece and ready for the season?

Didn't really "go" anywhere, per se. I just haven't been around the boards since I bit it last fall. Now that I'm getting the bike back on the road, I'll be nosing around a bit more.

Sure. I went down when I came into a turn hot AND shallow...just ran out rubber and hit the deck.

The first pic gives you an idea of the turn. I'm laying in the hollow of grass and weeds out in the center (distance), you can see someone kneeling over talking to me.

The second pic shows the scuff in the dirt where we believe *I* landed and began my slide out to where I wound up in the grass. I'm still laying down waiting for the medics to check me out at this point. I wasn't hurt, but since someone had already called them I figured I might as well wait. I'd rolled over using my noggin as the pivot point right as I came to rest, so I thought I'd let them check out my neck before I moved.

Third and fourth are me laying where I came to rest.

Remaining pics are damage to the bike. It's MOSTLY front end plastics and a mount bracket for my light. Sheared off the shift peg, bent slider, seriously tweaked the radiator.

I was able to ride it home but it rattled me enough that that was my last ride of the season last year.

Yup, everything on me was fine. When I was sliding in on my chest and when I felt my helmet start to bind I just tucked my chin in did a somesault, so there wasn't much trauma. Luckily.

Excellent example of why gear's good though. I probably would have punctured several vital pieces of my anatomy without the jacket and pants on. Nothing like watching the twigs and branches slide under your visor :p

Very true. According to the paramedics that turn eats more bikes every year than any other on that road.

Sort of a double-eged sword there, though. Looking back on it now, I can guarantee you that I wouldn't have been going that fast on that turn if I hadn't been with that group. It just reinforced a rule I have for cars that I forgot, that once, to use on the bike. Never go fast on a road you don't know. Had I been 10+ mph slower I would have made that turn.

 Yeah, I was thinking about just taking a nap right there. It was REALLY soft...probably 'cause I plowed up 10 feet of grass on the approach...

Sounds as if you learned a valuable lesson of not riding over your head.
I know plenty of fast guys that have crashed from miss reading a blind turn on an unfamiliar road. You may have made the turn if you knew the road and was able to set up for it properly. Its more important to take your time and be safe than keep up.:2cents:

Yup. I know I would have made it if I knew the road...hell, the guy on the Rocket III two bikes ahead of me made it :bonk:

If you look at the pic of the turn...I was in the inside third of the lane prior to lean in on that turn...pretty much NO chance of making that turn from that position. I learned a whole lot of hard earned things out of that little trip.

It's all good though. I'm gonna patch her all back up and get the group together to actually FINISH the ride this summer. I'll probably run cleanup this time and just take it easy though.

Hey :welcome: back Guideon72

I'm glad you're back and recovered. I remember the wreck from several months ago when you posted it up. The riding season is approaching soon so get that thing ready and back on the road!
