Anyone know if a sprocket for f4i will fit for 97 F3? They have a lot more f4i sprockets on ebay than for F3.

Also, anyone know if a 520 or 530 chain will fit 525 sprockets? I bought a pair of 525 sprockets off ebay for $0.10 and need to replace the ones on my bike soon but still need a chain.

From what I can tell, F3 and F4i sprockets are not interchangeable but I haven't personally tried to swap them. You MUST match chain pitch and sprocket pitch...ie 520 to 520, 525 to 525, 530 to 530.

I never saw the question. The only part I knew about was the sprocket pitch since I was asking about this about a month ago to my local shop.

i would tend to think a 530 chain would work for a 525 sprocket, not the most durable or lasting im sure, but it woulkd be wider then the sprocket so it would go on, just not sure how safe it would actually be. Like firing a smaller bullet in a bigger gun, some are changable, but its a select few. such as .38 and .357 and i believe 38's in a .40

When I brought bike in to a small shop to change my tire last month, the guy informed me that some teeth are broken on the sprocket. There was maybe 10 or so broken. I kept riding for a week and ordered the sprockets online. When I checked again, I believe all the teeth are broken now. Do you guys have any idea why they would all break?

I'm thinking that the chain was adjusted correctly and may be too loose. I checked the chain slack and it seems to have too much slack. I also think the back tire may not be aligned correctly.

What do you guys think?

O, is there anyway to check on the chain to see its pitch? The chain is a RK chain and the sprockets are Vortex.

First of all, although it might fit as a temporary fix, it is my personal policy not to recommend anything I feel is unsafe or potentially harmful.

Broken teeth are usually from a misadjusted chain or a chain that is stretched unevenly (like from clutching up the front wheel). That is also why I always recommend replacing the chain and sprockets as a complete set with new parts. This way everything wears in properly at the same rate.

The chain is usually stamped on the link plates as to its size. You can always hold the chain and sprockets together to see if they are a proper fit before you mount them.

Got the chain and sprockets changed and the answer is no a 520 chain does not fit 525 sprockets. Had to buy a 525 chain that costs me 80 bucks. That was a little expensive but I couldn't leave the bike at the shop and had to buy the chain.

I've checked online and it looks like Parts Unlimited chains are around 70-80 bucks. Anyone know if these are any good?

OK!!!!

No a 520 chain will never fit a 525 sprocket!! That is like trying to fit a a golf ball thru a opening on a 20oz pop bottle!! It would temperarly work in the reverse...a 525 chain on a 520 sprocket!!

Part Unlimited doesn't make parts!!! They are a distrubutor of parts!!

$80 is CHEAP for a chain!! My DiD cost about $210!!

80 aint bad.... if u want a NICE chain and sprocket set go to sidewinder racings site... they have a Ti moly sporoicket... light as alum but lifetime guareentee, iveh ad mine on my old bike, no sign of ANY WEAR after bout 10K miles.
Downside is its aobut a 160$ rear sprocket and 80 or so up front, plus bout a 160-180dollar chain.. u get a discount with a set....more money off on the nicer sets... Spend money on em, notign like replacing a set too often

210 for a DID? Is that like their top of the line model? Well either way the chain came in a parts unlimited box and I have no clue how good it will be. If I had bought a chain ahead of time I could have bought a DID for around 40-50. Not top of the line but its a DID.

So if parts unlimited only distributes parts does anyone know what kind of chain I have and how good it is? I honestly don't know.

$210 is a top of the line model. All gold with x-rings!

We'll wait to see if anybody knows what chain you have...

GasMan!!! Have you been breathing in too much gas!!! Whats with the exlamations!!! Seems like your angry!!!

I'm jus messing. Thanks for all the help guys. I guess the chain isn't too bad. The chain is a Parts Unlimited LM 525 O-ring chain. Guess it can't be too bad but then again I probably won't run into anyone who has experience with this chain.

FWIW, you get what you pay for with drive chains...more $$ = better quality, better looks, higher tensile strength, and longer life. That's not to say a $50 chain is junk, but it won't last as long as a $200 chain...and yes, you usually can put on four $50 chains (not to mention sprockets) for one $200 chain. Of course, you can ruin a $200 chain as easily as a $50 chain if you don't maintain and adjust it properly.

Just my $.02
