I was cruising down the interstate at about 80MPH when a square metal piece of something, I estimate 18" x 18", was hit by the car in front of me. The object flew up in the air and hit my Bermuda Blue '04 Avalanche on the driver side.

When I finally stopped and looked, the object impacted the driver side rear door handle, deflected but continued to scratch the rear quarter panel about 12"-18" from the edge of the door past the wheel well "bubble".

The door handle fared the worst, took a 3" chunk of plastic off. It's only about 1/8" wide, but it's down to the gray plastic. The scratch is superficial, not down to primer or anything, but it's big enough to feel if run your fingernail perpendicular to the scratch.

Since Bermuda Blue is a multi-layer paint process, there is no way a body shop could ever match it, IMO. I think I'm better off living with the scratch and just trying to minimize it's appearance. The door handle, some touch up will handle.

In retrospect if could have been much more damaging. The fact that it hit the door handle then deflected probably saved me a dent or two in the sheet metal.

Still...

suck :sorry: good thing it wasn't any worse. But if you ever think you might regret not fixing it now with insurance I would atleast find out. I have a huge scratch down my wife's car I thought I could live with, ya, it annoys the crap out of me ever time I see it.

Yeah check with the insurance company. That would be a comp claim and only $100 (usually depending on your insurance setup) deductable.

Also, shan... :nopicsbs:

That sucks....you still may want to have a paint shop look at it. It's amazing what they can do anymore matching paint.

I had a vette with a Rose Black Metallic paint and they matched it up so you couldn't even tell it was re-painted.

That blows shan :sorry:

I had a tumbleweed hit my prelude on the 101 and chaparral (you should know where that is shan). Im sure I was going about 80, I tried to avoid it but it was really really abnormally windy that day and it just nailed the side of my car, scratching the entire passanger side. It took me a while to buff it out (hehe), but most of the scratch buffed out.

I was on the 101 heading south, several years ago, in my Vette. Right around the area where SCC is, a full-sized washing machine box blew across the freeway. :yikes: I couldn't believe it, if I was a few car lengths ahead it would have hit me!

Wow, Im at SCC right now, and on my bike, I try to avoid the 101 south. But for some reason, I like taking 101 north home. That 5 mile stretch is good freeway practice, IMO. I remember seeing crazy crap like that too. The worst was that ladder. IT wasnt flying around, but it was sprawled across 2 lanes. Luckily I was a good 1/2 mile away when I noticed people swerving all crazy out of the way. But could you imaginge a metal ladder on the freeway? In my prelude, that would have trashed my front end, or even my whole car!!!. A truck would have better luck.

Bermuda Blue '04 Avalanche???? :gary: They do think of some pretty gay paint colors. LOL

If this "Bermuda Blue" is the color I believe it is (changes appearance due to light and angle etc) it can be reproduced. Father-inlaw had a SSR that color and it got deep scratch. OEM body/ paint shops can duplicate and you will never know scratch happened.

Speaking of wat happened to you, I was driving to work yesterday. Apparently a landscape truck lost a few shovels and rakes. Car in the lane next to me drive right over a metal shovel (made terrible noise), flipped it up and the pretty black Formula Firebird took it right on the hood. DOH! OUCH! :bash: Sure that left a mark

The name is :gary: or the color is :gary: ?

I think the color is awesome.

Sorry bout that Shan. The NAME!
COlor is cool, but I think in a couple years its going to look out dated. But for now its different and looks nice. My wife says I like "color-less" cars. Becasue typically I go with silver or black. Even though my Jeep is Midnight Blue
