I was toying with the idea of adding Scorpion slip-ons and possibly a PCIII but was curious if it would offer much more than just sound better. My bike is mainly used as a commuter bike that has fun on the weekends.

I would say that getting the slip ons is fine. Getting the PCIII is good! But you're not going to get the power that you would like. However, you may get some better response to the throttle and take out the bad parts of the power band that they use for emissions crap!

Hey Gas, thanks for reply. I'm really not sure what all I'm trying to gain. I mean really appr. 2hp gain probably isn't worth almost $800. But smoothing out the powerband would be nice.

anyone know how effective the PCIII is without an exhaust upgrade.

forgive my ignorance, I'm not used to FI...I'm coming from the carb'd cruiser world where jetting doesn't help without exhaust upgrades.

The performence gains on a jetted carb and a PCIII'ed FI...are the same depending on the conditions of the bike and it's mods!

Alot of the this depends on the MAP you give the PCIII.... if you get a custom MAP you may be able to expect more....

Plus you may find that once you put the slip on, on the bike, that the flaws in the powerband may become more apparent! All good things to consider...

Well go for a nice full Yosh or Micron system and then a PCIII.... can get the full Yosh for maybe like $700... I think that's what Twisty paid for his on his '04 GSXR 1K...

well the Yosh isn't an option on the FZ. I was debating on doing a full system but like I said mainly a commuter and not sure I can justify 1k. That is one reason I was trying to figure out the benefit of just the slip on.

Just a slip on is just that... more sound... slightly better exhaust breathing... but with that, it might not only amplify the sound it might amplify the various power band flaws...

wait, does your bike have a converter like the R1's
If it does, loss it for what ever the price.

I don't like to throw money away either. But don't get the PCIII. That is for fuel injection. For the carbs on your FZ, an Ivan's Jet Kit would be the first thing to get. Ask speedwerks if they have one. After doing the jet kit, you may want a taller screen.

I didn't even think of that No Worries.
I doughty that it has a converter with out F/I.
The slip-ons will be a very minimal increase in HP.
Full system is better but not needed.
Combine filter, slip-ons/full system & jet kit for some great results.

The only reason I know the FZ has carbs is my friend had one until he traded it in on a dirt bike. The FZ has the R1 engine, but it's from 1998, which had carbs. Also has different cams, and a smaller bore and longer stroke than the new R1. It's a better street bike than the R1, even though the R1 is probably the best street bike of the liter race bikes.

Yep, it is FI....I have the FZ6 which has the "detuned" R6 engine.
