The only way I would get a custom paint job is if I do all the work on my bike. One trip to the dealer and i guarantee you'll find a scratch or something. I just found a bunch of **** that they did on my bike and I'm going there tomorrow to get it resolved. They never even hooked up the front right blinker when they were done. The most damage they did this time was put a ding in the tank. I think they dropped a ratchet or something on it while they were trying to get the tank loose. I'm major pissed about that, but it's good to have my bike back after two months.

I agree. If it were a show bike, then I'd cough up the dough to do it, other wise I'd just keep my bike stock (paint) There are other ways to make your bike stand out with out paying bookoo bucks for a paint job.

The answer to custom painting is not an easy one. Doing it for a living I of coarse would say that every bike needs a custom paint job, there is one big if that makes it all worth while though, it should be wrecked before you touch it, I paint bikes that are brand new or in perfect condition, a waste of money in my eyes, the cost of painting with repair is not much more than if you paint a new bike. There are also some things to consider when painting. there is a time to spend a little more and keep the value of the bike up, a cheap paint job that look like **** will do more to knock the value of your bike than anything. Over the years I have learned a few things, I will pass on some of Bobs do s and Dont s

This bike was wrecked at the track
The cost to replace all of the plastic that was damaged was more than the paint job which cost less than the parts from the dealer. Cost to repair and give this guy a custom one of kind paint job $1400

The bike is worth more than if it was stock now

This bike belongs to me, slide off the road and into the woods,

Way to much time in it, all of the graphics are in paint, no decals, cost if it were for a customer $2000. To much for the average guy, if you know me it will only be a short time before I find out if the goes as fast on its side as on the wheels

This bike was a piece of junk that the owner pieced together.

This was a wise investment for $1150

I had a custom paint job on the SV, it turned a lot of heads and I got tons of compliments on it every where I went. My friends hated when they were on their brand new R6's, CBR's, and SV1000 and I am on a 2000 SV yet I get the crowd coming to check out my ride...all because of the awesome paint.

My friend that painted my bike painted my bike for the sake of scratches. All I had to do was take a sharpie marker to cover up scratches and you would never know.

Part two

This bike was wrecked and painted with the decals so it looks stock again, $950, it was easily worth the money for paint, stock job nothing fancy one of the best options you can have

This was one of those jobs that blew even my mine, almost no real damage to the bike, scratches on most of the plastic, small dent in the tank. Insurance company said $3800 in damage, cost was $850, we did partial repairs on all of the parts, none were completly painted all were cleared.

almost but not quite, this bike looks stock yet it screams I have been wrecked

This is the best example of what not to do, a $750 dollar job with a funky color that belongs on a car, no decals. I am sure it does not add any value to the bike, it had minor damage but the next guy would have to like the color as much as the current owner

We will paint anything a customer wants, if it is flames or tribal make sure you plan on keeping the bike, some version of stock always works well, to be honest only the race replicas seem to add value to the bike, making it look stock to some degree will maintain it's value and a cheap paint job in which you cut all of the corners will knock money off of the bikes.

Pardon me for being a post whore, but you can see about 30 or bike we have painted by going to my site http://empiregp.com/ just click on the examples at the top of the page

Thanks for indulging me...Bob

I think this answers allot of questions. :dthumb:
I've done all the above over the years (I should say "had done")
The cheap paint just gets a wrecked bike back to a selling potential. Selling as a fixed rideable bike.
Stock looking paint maintaining value.
All out custom jobs for my pleasure. I found these to be very pricey and actually harder to sale than a stock bike. I don't foresee doing another unless it is a custom HD type bike.
