The very first time I dumped my ride, I picked it up by the handlebars. No biggie, unless it's still running!! Naturally the whole thing rotated, scraping the ground.

So, aside from the obvious (now obvious), is there a 'proper' way to pick it up?

well, first you stand beside it, pace for about 30 seconds, cursing up a storm under your breath as you look around to see if anybody else saw you drop it or lay it down...

but after that, alot of it depends on if you're by urself or you have help. Its hard to pick it up anyother way but the handlebars if your alone, because its so heavy, and thats the easiest point to grab, and then once you get it started you can lift from below the seat to help out.

but if you have a couple people, one in the middle under the seat and one in the front to steady it as it comes back upright is how i've done it b/4.

Ive seen tiny women pick up huge bikes, just gotta use the proper method. Stand beside your bike, with your back to it (back to the top of bike, seat side).. Bend your knees, and grab up front by the handlebars and in back by the subframe somewhere, and then just stand up and lean against the bike at the same time, and it will pop right up. Not much force used at all.

Pickle is right! That is a great way to do it! Just make sure you don't pull to hard and fast...or it will go over on the other side!!!

I've always had somebody near and that is the best way!!!

I actually helped a fellow rider, pick up his GoldWing once, he dropped it in a mall parking lot a few years ago. Wow, if that wasnt a chore  Was just the 2 of us, and I felt bad for him, and older gentlemen. We ended up getting it back on 2 wheels, but yeah, they really are as heavy as they look.!!!

Dude are you nuts? 30 seconds? Sh!t the mfr in the Lexus done already called the cops and they are enroute. 30 seconds is the time it takes me to pick it up, brush myself off, kick it a few times, flick off the mfr that cut me off, pop a wheelie and hit 100mph on a side street before the 5-0 gets there.. Fouck that. You crazy boy? lol..

Hey try this - a semi cuts you off, you roll down the median into the **KEYWORD IS NEXT** --> MUD <-- which is like 4" deep and you have to pick it up - yeah not good. Slipping around covered in mud after pulling a db is not good. I am not sure how I pick it up - I am usually so mad I just reef it up there - mostly adrelanine and anger. Proper way to pick it up? The fastest way you are going to get it up without hurting yourself to make a quick exit before the cops get there and issue you some gay a$$ revenue based ticket even though it wasn't your fault - failure to control your vehicle in a manner presecribed on the back of KISS MY MFR A$$ YOU STINKING REVENUE SUCKING FACIST SCUMBAG A$$WIPE!

But like busa said - don't drop it.. Easier said that done right.. Perhaps we should axe Twisty the best answer - he has alot of experience picking up bikes.. lol..

Oh and Pickle - were they spinners? Were they hot? Did you do them before they picked up the bike or after? Did you cope a feel while they were busy picking up the heavy bike? Give them the ol' "accidental bump"? lol..
