Working nights BLOWS the big weiner!! I'm exhausted. I know people have told me that I"ll get a schedule at some point, but after a long 3 day week end of work, I stayed up till 9:30 this morning then slept till 3ish, then fell back to sleep at around 7ish, and just woke up to find out that I'm still tired and I'll be hitting the sheets soon. lol I don't know how long I'll be able to take this.. UGH! And as if my 5'5" can take any less weight, I'm now down to 103 lbs. due to me not eating at night. I tried, I really did, but it was as if my throat was closing up when I was trying to swallow my crackers. Dang. I hope I used to this. I feel for you guys/gals that work these hours all the time.

WOW! Not taking well to it huh? Well on Saturday nights i would sleep like normal, but i would calculate what time I need to get ready for work and sqeeze in a couple or a few hour nap. When you wake up, have a bowl of cereal or something to get your energy up. Have no fear. you'll get use to the schedule, or get use to the bull****. Or both.

That's pretty much how I got so addicted to Pepsi... I'm not a coffiee person so Pepsi was my sort of wake up...

one question though... do you WAKE UP for work? I mean like I do for a 7-5... I wake up at 530... and do all my crap after work...
or do you crash immediatly after work? for nights... it was easier for me to just crash after and get all my crap done before...
So basicly if I had to be at work at 7pm I'd wake up at 2 or 3pm and get all my errands or just chill till work at 7... then when I got off... I'd head home and to bed. helped me alot. :2cents:

Plus more stores are open

either way... as said above it's an adjustment period... give it another week or so:luck:

That's the way I used to do it. With my schedule now. 12:00 to 12:00 I treat it more like a mid day job. Get up several hours early, do my thing, go to work, get off work, :whore: on TWF for a while and or watch the TV. Then I crash just to do it all over again.

When I was on mids I use to stay awake and take care if everything I needed to, then crash. Sometimes I would stay up til like 6PM drinking, when i had to work at 11. Those were some long shifts. It didn't help that my buddy was Irish and wanted to drink after work every night...or morning. We'd find ourselves playing $1 minimum blackjack drunk off our tree's at 11AM a lot.

i work two jobs one during the day and one at night, and their right its a routine i used to hate it i was always cranky and tired but it takes awhile for your body to get used to it. But the weight thing you might try to find time to snake when your awake eat little portions a lot during whatever time your awake or most awake it will keep you more awake and feeling better plus it will help to keep you from losing tons of weight.

Honestly, I try to stay up as long as I can after I get off work. I start cleaning the house writing out bills etc etc.. but I can only stay up till about 9ish then the shakes kick in again. I sleep till about 3, get up and try to eat then fall back to sleep about 4 and get up at 6.

I bought snack crackers and the sort to try to nibble all night, but it's like my throat closes up. If it wasn't for the fact that my paychecks are going to be great, I'd beg the shirts (management) to move me to a different shift. I just don't want to sleep away the season. I've been in a virtual prison for 6 yrs and now that I'm free, I want to get some semblance of a life back. :)

try some protein shakes... and try just crashing after work... and getting up at 3.... or hell.. crash after work and wake up INTIME for work for a couple days... to give your body the extra rest it thinks it's missing. I would try to keep your sleep schedule the same on the weekends... at least untill your body is back to normal:2cents:

:luck:

I used to work part-time nights, and go to school full time during the day. I did it for 5 years.

Before that, I was in the Navy for 6 years. Out at sea, you never got a regular sleep schedule.

I just got used to being tired all the time, and sleeping whenever I got the chance.

Because of that, I'll never work nights again.

I have a :whore: addiction problem.

Once I get off work I :whore: all day and all night until about 1 am here on TWF. Therefore I say I will take a nap after work every morning when I get out of bed at 6 am. I get my 2 or 3cups of coffee in the morning and I'm fine.

However where I've been out on the road for the past 2 months and very little sleep in the past 2 weeks I never heard my alarm clock this morning...hell I had 3 of them set. I woke up at 8:20 am. :yikes: I'm just glad I have flex time. Yet here it is 11:30 pm already and I'm still here :whore:ing:twfrox:

I know what you mean about flex time. I don't even have an alarm clock. Well I do but I don't use it. I have my body trained to get to bed around 2 or 3am and up around 9 to 11am. As long as I'm up and gone by 2pm every thing is cool. I do the same on weekends unless I have a big ride planed and I might go to bed early so I can rise a little earlier. Its all about the routine.

I don't suggest caffeine to try to stay awake at night, just as I don't suggest it to stay awake during the day. But some people feel they need it. As for getting accustomed to the schedule, it will take some time. One thing I would highly suggest is to get some blackout curtains for your room. Make it completely dark in your room so that you can sleep better during the day. Another suggestion would be to try to darken your house gradually. It may be noon when you go to bed, but you want to pull the curtains closed a little at a time to make it darker and darker. Then you go in your room to wind down and gradually close the bedroom door so it's completely black. This will help your body adjust to sleeping during the day.

What hours are you working? As a couple other guys mentioned, you need to get into a schedule. Try to keep it as close to a regular daily schedule as you can. If you usually worked 8-4, did you go to bed right after work? No, you stayed up for about 6 hours or so after work. You would also get up an hour or so before work and have breakfast, then you'd have lunch 4-5 hours into your day, then dinner after work. This is the way you need to set up your schedule when you're working nights, especially if you're going to stay on the nightshift for awhile. The worst work schedule is when they change it on you all the time and you work nights for a couple weeks, then days, then 2nd shift. You almost never get accustomed to that routine. But if they stick you on one schedule, you can get your body to accept the changes. You'll just have to fit riding into the schedule as best as possible. Most likely after work (once you get into the routine and your not tired during that time).
