...in the parking lot of a Subway, cleaning freshly spilled white paint from the underside of my bike. :cursin: Some @sshole construction dude dumped a gallon can off his trailer one car ahead of me. Had to 'borrow' handfulls of napkins and cups of water from the sub shop, but I got it all off the painted surfaces and seat frame and swingarm pivot area before it dried. Washed it when I got home. Here's the thing: I see some that got flung into the radiator fins off of the front. I was able to clean the header pipes and most of the oil filter (who cares, next oil change its back to new) but what about the radiator? Should I remove the fairing and maybe "rinse" it with some diluted thinner or acetone? Suggestions? ...anyone? ...Bueller? ...Bueller?

TIA

personally... i would... one it might effect the cooling depending on how much got on... and two again it'd look like a$$ if you left it on... again depending on how much got on...

you might try to get the company's info and give them a call and AT LEAST complain. I had a rock qurry (spelling?) near my old place in cali and I had a truck kick up a rock and break (not just crack but bust all the way through) my windshield and I called them up and they sent me to a place and paid for it!... it was much easier they said than dealing with the lawers as they're not supposed to be dropping any rocks on to the road

Please tell me you got the company's name.
:withstupi But I'm guessing he didn't.... :tt:

Otherwise, you could always go and file a report at the police station. Then file a comp claim with your insurance.

Sense the radiator is metal and all... you could just remove it, and soak it in some paint thinner... maybe.... not sure if it would effect the alum rad...

Ahh :wtf:!!! Man I would be so pissed off! Tell me you got that companies name! It's probably some private contractor in business for himself or something, and doesn't have anything. So it might be a waste of time, but I'd atleast see what you can do about it!

Clean that rad out, because it will cause the air not to flow correctly and it will get hot.

I'm assuming it was latex paint considering you removed most of it with water and towels. Some digresser and maybe a tooth brush should do the job on the rad. Just be careful not to bend the fins. Might even work with oil based paint too.

You could definitely give the company that lost the paint allot of trouble over this. Sounds like you took care of most the mess. Not much for them to do now.

personally I'd leave the paint untill AFTER you deal with the company... you've already got it off your paint... hopefully... and it's not gonna hurt leving it on the radiator a little while longer (if you can deal with not riding for a bit) to make them take care of it... heck you might be able to get a NEW radiator... just keep this one as a spair!:2cents:

Okay, okay...no I did not get any name of any company off the truck/trailer. It dropped the paint, I didn't see it 'cause of the one car immediately between us, we're goin' like 40. I braked hard and swerved, missing the BIG puddle, but went through some anyway, actually lost the front for a millisecond as it slid through the paint under braking. Props to me for not pooping my pants. I immediately pulled off, within say 25 ft, into a strip mall and Subway parking lot. I didn't even think to "go after" the truck. I was freaked about getting paint thrown up onto my mint, anally clean bike. Went through a small panic attack when I saw HOW MUCH had been thrown onto the lower fairing and seat underside, even got some up on my solo seat cowl and up the back of my JR mesh jacket. So I went to work wetting and scrubbing with the paper towels/napkins and water before it dried. I would think that if I continued to ride, even more would get thrown up off the tires, and it all would dry ON the paint very quickly. There is still some dried paint in the tread grooves, which looks weird, but should wear away. I'm cleaning the radiator with some diluted mineral spirits from a spray bottle. Thanks for the toothbrush idea, Gas Man, that should do the trick....

:sorry: Sorry I wasn't able to fulfill your litigious outcries, I feel lucky to have kept the rubber side down, AND still have a clean bike.

it's ok... bro it was just an idea... I thought if you HAD seen the name you might want to at least call them up... but yeah... I'm sure I'd have done the EXACT same thing as you... pulled over and gotten that **** off my bike.

hopefully no perminant damage was done

about the tooth brush... BE LIGHT with it... that will still bend the fins:2cents:

I see why that paint would be so hard to get out. Probably take the radiator off and soaking it in something, or having it off the bike would probably make it easier to get the paint off.
