So I find out today after I spend $80 on a new K&N high air flow filter that without rejetting it is a waste of time.. finish up the bike, clean the chain and take it for a ride.. I get out on 8 mile and hit it the thing hesitates like a mfr and then goes.. ok maybe it is cold or maybe because I had the gas tank off it there was a gap.. so I ride around and let it warm up.. same thing.. off the line in first gear it feels like it is being held back like it is running on 3 plugs or something and then around 40-50 mph it takes off.. I go back to the Twistified garage and say the forks are great and the bike starts right up but it hesitates big time - someone tells me it is the filter for sure that without rejetting it is no good.. I had asked the guy at the dealer for a stock filter and he said no the K&N is the same price so why go stock because K&N is much better and he has one in his 01 GSXR 600 and it is great, etc. I am tempted to clean off the stock filter or go buy a stock filter and put it back in and return the K&N.. I am going to the track 2 days next week so I will see how it goes, I am hoping it isn't too shiiity.. Just wanted to mention it in case anyone else with an R6 is considering the change without rejetting - don't do it..

interesting you post this MP...My friend with a 04 R6 is haveing a world of problems right now. Over the winter he did upgrades like no other. PCIII power comander, brake upgrades, V-stacks, slide stops, BMC race filter, speedo healer, igintion inhancer, micron slip on......the list goes on., he made the mistake of doing all this at on time during the winter and now has a world ? problem with it bucking. When he explains the problem to me it sounds like a air fuel mixture problem. He was using other people's maps, and tried his own custom maps...still didn't fix the problem. He took his R6 into the shop to have a custom map professionally done, and they worked on this thing all day, still couldn't get right. Also the shop says they don't see anything wrong with his work. He thinks he has a bad Power Commander, but I don't really think that is the case. I may suggest to him to try and put the stock air filter in just to see if it makes a difference. I am including pics of his before and after dyno runs.

Edit>>I just suggested takeing his BMC filter out and putting his OEM back in. He said he will try this tomorrow., however he took his power commander out and attempted to run it with out the power commander. He rode about 35 miles and had no problems. He said it ran a little hotter than normal but still well with in range. The rev wasn't as high, but other than that he said it seems to run ok. So he is going to send the power commander in and hopefully they will replace it.

The bike may just need to learn what's it has.
Try disconnecting the battery to reset the ecm.
This should force it to learn the new set up.
That is a very good tip. My Hemi Ram has to learn every add on put on it, For one and most common is the Air intake systems. The ECM has to relearn the new filter. It is all about mixture. your A/F is reading different and a lot has to happen to rethink the air fuel mix. Right now it might be a little lean or flat on bottom. But it may pick up with some riding. If it dont check your plugs for an idea of your mixture. Or go back to stock. Its only a couple of HP that you dont feel anyway. :2cents:

i will definately try that.. that's for the tip.. unplugging the battery can easily be done quickly in the morning for a minute and then replug in.. that would be awesome if it was an easy fix like that, etc. also didn't think about the new oil on it, etc... i really hope it is one or both so I can just leave it alone.. i really don't want to work on the bike anymore this year.. i have done more work to it today then I have since I bought it.. i wasn't really looking for more power, although that never hurts, I just wanted to do the much needed maintenance and the air filter was near the top of the list with the fork fluid since neither was ever done.. the brake fluid was just a bonus because they bought a bleeder and some Motul brake fluid they said I could use..

Hey guys... his R6 is carbed...not FI!!!

Not to throw a wrench in the idea but that's not the key. The problem is that his A/F ratio is JACKED now. With a slip on and a high flow air filter he has way too much air in there right now. Put the stock filter back in...make sure it goes back to normal. If it doesn't, I would suggest it is the plugs that you just put in. But I'm willing to bet it's the filter. Then if you don't plan on jetting it in the near future return the K&N for a nice new stock filter. :2cents:

No doubt about it.
The way the other post was I though he was EFI. But A/F mixture is Def the problem either way.

:sorry: I forget some bike still have carbs.
:iagree: Put the OEM filter back in.
Disconnecting the battery wont effect it at all.
We'll let it slide this once!! But next time!

If it's not running right on the street, don't try it on the track...you will either experience a worse hesitation that could put you in a very unsafe situation or if you try to "ride through it" you could be lean enough to pop your motor. If you don't have time to jet it properly, go with what you know is OK.

what about taping up one side of the air intake to adjust the air/fuel mix? that would be a quick fix to see if that is the problem? problem is I can't test it on the street (at least not easily as the bike is at Dyno's like 40 miles away taped up on the trailer ready to go).. I am cleaning the stock filter as I was going to throw it back in early Thursday morning before the track day starts.. I should have time.. I was just thinking about taking a page out of the nascar book and taping it up on one side.....
