Anyone else get leg cramps while riding? It's incredibly painful and I usually get one after putting a leg down, then back up on the peg. It's more of an upper thigh cramp, on the outside.

What can you do to prevent them?

Its very rare I get them, but when I do its usually a result of having slept "funny". And I tend to get them at the top of my calves or back of my thighs.

As twisty mentioned, racers always eat bananas at the track for potassium to help with issues like you're having. In addition, lack of appropriate hydration can cause cramps as well. Also, try stretching before and after you ride. That helps, too.

I get a really bad cramp in my hip from time to time. Usually when I take my foot off the peg and then put it back on.

Most recently on my doomed Carlisle ride. On the way to the meeting spot I stick my right leg out to let my buddy know of some debris on the road....put in back on the peg...and massive cramp. At this point I look like some kind of stunter. I'm doing everything to get this to stop...standing up...sticking back out. They eventually just go away.

That's exactly what I'm talking about!! I know what you're saying. I'm dragging a leg, contorting in all different ways and nothing seems to really work. I usually just grit my teeth in pain and wait for it to go away.

what if you put a bar of soap in your pocket? but seriously, i read somewhere that putting a bar of soap under your bedsheet next to your legs prevents leg cramps at night. who knows, it might just be silly enough to work...

I use to do that, but the damn "Soap Fairy" kept taking it and leaving a dollar.

As said... potasium, and more water. Also, drop that standard multi-vit and go with a pre-natel vit. They have a better percentage of the vits you want.... and don't worry they are just a super multi, you aren't going to loose any of your man hood!
