Hey, Im buying a bike in about a week. I was wondering what gear everyone had and their opinions on them. Im looking for the best bang for the buck.

I've used an HJC helmet for 4 years when karting so I have an HJC for biking too.

I decided to go with textiles because I think they breathe better and are definitely cheaper. I bought a Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket earlier this year when I decided to learn to ride. For Christmas I am getting (all rocket stuff) Ballistic pants, Meteor jacket, pheonix shoes, and a pair of insulated gloves.

An HJC-FRS chatterbox and a rocket manta? tank bag will also be delivered December 25th.

While doing all the Christmas shopping I also picked up a pair of Icon Recon jeans but haven't had a chance to use them yet... too cold.

I think that's it!

Vega Helmets..Thats what I use..Snell/Dot certified, reasonably priced, well vented..very very nice lid.

but shans review here , is making my next choice for a lid pretty easy.

Ive got ICON riding gloves..and usually ride in jeans, boots, and a heavy jacket. I dont have alot of gear, but Im working on it..little by little..

Actually it's all from my mom. I got to pick everything out but it will be wrapped and under the tree. It ruins the surprise aspect, but I get exactly what I want this way... course there will be a few other packages full of smaller surprises!

Shoei RF-900
AGV Leather Gloves (fall/spring)
Fieldsheer Leather Gloves (summer)
Fieldsheer Carbon Race Jacket
Fieldsheer Tungsten Pants
Sidi Vertebra Boots

Items I need to get rid of:
Fieldsheer Demon Jacket (sz 44)
Fieldsheer Tungsten Pants (sz 34)

Love the Shoei, of course. The AGVs are ok, but I'll have to try out some exterior seamed gloves to know if these are the "norm". Jacket is great, and the pants are very comfortable. Of course, they zip together in 9" and full circumf.

Ended up with the other gear as being too big b/c of an Ebay purchase so I could get the pants that fit me. Figured I'd either just sell them or wait until I gained some weight and they'd fit me. So far, the latter hasn't happened.

Gear comes and goes, I've had more than what I currently have. This is my current list:

Shoei RF-800 +mirrored shield
Scorpion EXO-700 + mirrored shield
Cortech Tourmaster 3/4 length Cordura jacket
Cortech matching pants to above
Ku$hitani (summer jacket)
Dainese leather jacket (forget the name of the style)
Joe Rocket Sahara cooling vest
Alpinestar moto-X gloves for summer
Another pair if moto-X gloves I can't remember
Joe Rocket Phoenix gloves (summer)
Alpinestar GP-PLUS racing gloves
Alpinestar bullet boots
Tank bag

I'm sure I'm missing something...

You can find great deals on the web. The Ti-Max gloves were actually sent to me by Icon before they were available on the streets. They were one of their prototype models.

One thing that I don't worry about is if brands match etc. I just buy what fits best.

Currently have a Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket that I use for street riding just to have padding. Also have a pair of Joe Rocket mesh pants that now have a hole in them and should probably be tossed. For anyone thinking of buying these pants, I would highly recommend AGAINST them. Get at minimum a pair of cordura pants. Yes, I know, you think you will really want the mesh in the summer time. You're wrong because that mesh and the weak lining won't do squat for you if you go down. Protective gear is not meant to keep you cool, its meant to keep your skin intact. Just FYI. I have a pair of ICON gloves for summer riding as well as ICON boots that are good for street riding. HJC helmet is thrown away and I will be buying an Arai in the spring. As for helmet, I strongly suggest trying on different helmets and buying what fits you best, even if it is the most expensive. I tried on MANY helmets, and Arai was the most comfortable and best fitting helmet I tried. However, everyone has different shaped heads and different helmets work better for others.
Now, for track days (and even some street rides), I have a two-piece set of AGV Sport vented leathers that fully zip together. Yes, I know that the vented ones aren't quite as durable as solid leathers, but these work for me. I may buy new later, but I got an awesome deal on these and they fit great. I have Alpinestars boots and back protector for the track and a nice pair of gauntlet style gloves, although I can't remember the brand name.
