JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A familiar voice to radio listeners for the past 30 years was hospitalized after he was in a hit-and-run crash Friday night, and family and co-workers worry he'll never walk again.

Rich Langlois, known to Cool 100.7 listeners as Rick Barron, was struck while riding his motorcycle near the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and Empire Point Road. Witnesses said a car made a U-turn into Langlois' path.

His neck was broken in the accident and his family was told he could end up a quadriplegic.

"He had no feeling from the chest down and he couldn't remember what happened," his sister, Holly Stekeur, told Channel 4's Bryan Kelley.

Langlois was in surgery Tuesday at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center.

"He's been on the air in some form, whether it be doing an air shift or production, since the mid- to late-70s," Cool 100.7 program director Briggs Brickley said.

Those who know Langlois said he loves his listeners.

"Everything that he did, he always thinks about the audience," Brickley said.

Friends and family said they are trying to remain positive.

"We're praying its not going to be a quadriplegic," Brickley said. "After this surgery, we're going to find he's going to recover."

While doctors do what they can to help Langlois recover, police are searching for car that struck him.
