Hello I have a 1990 gxsr1100 that I just did the engine over its starts and idles great but when you get on it, it loses power and a small flame shoots out the exhaust. Checked fire order and its seems right but not sure . If anyone has any ideas I would be very thankful.

are you dumping too much fuel in the carbs when you open it up?
and can you smell fuel when you open up the throttle when you get on it?

carbs are stock, I do have adjustable cam sprockets but I put them on the same position they were in before rebuild. The carbs are new have less than 1500 miles ,they still had the mixture plugs on them. Not sure if the old carbs had larger jets in them. If anything it maybe running on the lean side.. thanks for your feed back guys and you both have cool rides

Jose

p.s... the whole engine was rebuillt spun a couple of bearings

:welcome: jose.

It definately isn't a lean issue! Its rich or the timing is off!

Lean doesn't give you flames out the tail!

Hey Gas Man I guess you are right I just thought since carbs are at factory settings that it would be on the lean side. I'm kind of leaning towards out of timing. But does anyone know how to set up those adj cam sprockets maybe they are to far advance with the new stock cams I installed:scratch: :help:

Thanks Jose'

I think too far advanced would make it lean... maybe you have them set retarded... (not like duh but the opposite of advanced)

Hey guys thanks for all your help, but I fix it . I retarded the timing just abit with the cam sprockets, and took apart my old carbs thinking that they may have a jet kit installed, they did. Removed jet kit and installed on my new carbs ,tested, now my baby has all the power that I knew it should have.

THANKS AGAIN

So you removed the jet kit and retarded the timing? I think you could have just advanced the timing some with the jet kit and got er... but as long as you're happy.
