tune-up

Hey everyone. I recently brought a 2000 ninja 250 in baltimore and I need to bring it up to New York, where I live. The previous owner said he was pretty good with the up-keep. Just wondering, what should I get done to it before I make the trip? I'll do the big work (valve adjustment) when I get home, but is there anything I shoud do before I hit the road?

99's idea isn't bad.... that really isn't a bike to take on a long road trip....

But in general, make sure it has some good or new plugs, maybe a new fuel filter, good tires, new oil, good anti-freeze... the same type of stuff you would check on your car for any road trip.

:iagree: with all the above. Especially the trailer idea. That little Ninja will be screaming its guts out at highway speed and if you do it to long. It might puke. also, don't forget to check the air pressure in the tires.

:iagree: trailer it...that's just too long on the interstate. you will get 70 miles or so and say I made a bad choice if you ride it.

I just wouldn't recomend that bike for a long distance highway trip!

It won't be comfortable, but it's doable. One of my friends rode his Ninja 250 400-500 miles on the Interstate in a weekend. It wasn't that bad, from what he said.

Many years ago, my buddy, without consultation bought his first bike, a 1983 rebel 250. A little cruiser intro bike. He proceeded, against my recommendation, one week after he got it to put his wife on the back and ride it round trip from upstate NY, to Pittsburg. I think thats about 600 miles. It was a miserable experience for him, and his wife, and he sold it a few weeks later.

Your results may vary :bash:

an 83 rebel 250 with 2 people on it...is not the best thing to take on a road trip in the first place

speaking of an 83 rebel 250...my dads best friend up here in PA has one...it's only got like 400 miles or so on it...he just kept it as a collectors item all these years...he constantly has dealerships asking him if they could buy or trade him for it. He is letting is oldest son ride it now...but last I heard he's thinking about trading the rebel in for a bigger bike for him. I know he will get top dollar for that little bike.
