BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- For 40 exhausting minutes, Wayne Goldsberry battled a buck with his bare hands in his daughter's bedroom.

Goldsberry finally subdued the five-point whitetail deer that crashed through a bedroom window at his daughter's home Friday. When it was over, blood splattered the walls and the deer lay dead on the bedroom floor, its neck broken.

Goldsberry was at his daughter's home when he heard glass breaking. He went back to check on the noise and found the deer.

"I was standing about like this peeking around the corner when the deer came out of the bedroom," said Goldsberry. The deer ran down the hall and into the master bedroom - "jumping back and forth across the bed."

Goldsberry entered the bedroom to confront the deer and, after a brief struggle, emerged to tell his wife to call police. After returning to the bedroom, the fight continued. Goldsberry finally was able to grip the animal and twist its neck, killing it.

Goldsberry, sore from the struggle, dragged the dead animal out of the house.

"He got kicked several times. He was walking bowlegged for a while," Deputy Doug Gay said.

At this time of year, a buck that sees its reflection in a window often charges, believing it is fighting off a rival, Gay said.

Goldsberry intended to have the deer processed for its meat.

Thats very manly of him, but did he have to go back in and kill it? Close the door and board it up or whatever, but fighting it is a better story.
No doubt. Fighting it does make for a better story, but pretty stupid in my opinion. He should have just closed the door and called animal control. Hell, that deer could have just as easily killed him with an antler to the neck or lungs.

But why Capt... now he gets to be famous, gets a nice mount, gets to have the deers head as a mantle piece mount, and gets some nice venison.

And have you seen how much damage a deer trapped in an enclosed space can do?? The deer could have done thousands in damage to the house before animal control arrived...Of course, one .308 from my AR would have been much cleaner and easier...

Well, it may have been easier, but not necessarily cleaner. But I see your point.

thats dman lucky to not get killed. You have a hard time getitng your .308 in,id leave mine in the closet and use the S.A. XD-9 and be done in three shots and one second..lolthat close range a semiauto 9mm would do the trick just fine, and much more accurate being THAT close.

But its a cool story, im surprisedthey let him butcher it, he musta had a deer tag and the seasons still open there to begin with.

id imagine he had it by a horn and neck, or its muzzle and neck... only way u couldget the force to do it. When i first started hunting, we shot a deer in a cnayon so thick of brush we couldnt get rifles in there.. .walked down and the deer got up and ran off!..lol we chased him down the canyon and stoned him till he fell then stood on its horns andcut its throuat.. it was REAL gory, but it had to be done... now ill carry my pistol with me whenever i go, wont have that issue.

My AR is a carbine...it is extremely well suited for close spaces...

U ever taken the AR hunting for deer? i think i wanan get a Ar-15 eventually, with a nice scope... it would be cool to hunt with id think, for the long long range, but for now my .308 remington works just great.
