i was looking around the Begginners corner :readng: and started noticing that about every new thread from newbies(hell i did it as one of my first post and still am asking about it) is what kinda bike to get and how big and how fast, i started thinkin should a msf course be mandatory for all new riders? would it be a pain in the aass or a life saving measure? it would give newbies a chance to see what we are gettin into and to get a good feel how fast 'slow' bikes really are to rookies, just my thoughts... lemme kno what you think :dthumb:

I'm not sure about the mandatory thing...but I sure do like the way Missouri has it set up. You take the written test to get your permit, then the MSF class counts as your riding exam. I got my permit to get my starter bike, '82 Kaw 440ltd and immediately signed up for the first available course which you have to do about 6 months ahead of time around here. Got comfy on the 440 then moved up from there.

But I'm not sure mandatory because if for some crazy reason you take a break from bikes for a few years and let it lapse, then you would have to take it again later. Might not be a bad idea, but mandatory??? nah

:iagree: Its the insurance savings that should be mandatory. Not all insurance companies notice it and should. :2cents:

I would love it if my insurance company would give me discounts for the countless safety courses I have talkin both on the bike and for cars/trucks. But they don't and it makes me mad...

Ya, I know commercial does, cause that's the reason my company pays for all of us to take the classes... they get the ins break...

When you got your first driver's license, did they not make you take a Drivers' Ed course ??? They didn't want you driving around in a cage with no training. Why should a MC be any different? I got my Driver's license on my 16th birthday, and my MC license 1 month later. Back in the Stone Age, we took MC safety classes from the Green Cross people...
