[GSXR1000DJ]

I wonder why the manufacturers designate their models with those acronyms.

There's got to be a translation of these codes, and I think there are because mostly military products have codes to designate them, so why not motorcycles?

Like in cars, for example, the BMWs have 318, 320, 520, etc
"3" is the chassis cell and "18" is the 1800cc engine. Result: Chassis 3 with 1.8 engine. The same applies to others models.

Somebody told me that (for example) a Suzuki GS, the "GS" means 2 valves per cylinder, but adding and "X" (GSX) means double the GS (4 valves per cylinder).

Have any idea?

A Honda with a VT designator has a V-Twin engine, the VF is a V-4. Throw an R in there and it becomes a sport bike; VTR, VFR. Add the RR and you have Super Sport. I think.

does the R not stand for racing? Thats what I allways thought. Apparently thats what insurance companies think too, "oh its a gsx-R, I thought you said gsx-F. well in that case it's another bagillion dollars more for your policy"

My TL-S ment Twin Liter Sport, Where the TL-R means Twin Liter Race Replica. Thats what I was told but dealer but those guys are morons so I could be wrong.
