Are any of you near Clinton township? I'm currently bidding on a Pit Bull rear stand on ebay that's located there.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&item=4521426921&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

I'm kind of leary that the seller is going to way overcharge me for shipping. They're claiming a shipping cost of close to $30 to ship to Indiana, which sounds a bit steep to me. So, I need two favors, if you don't mind. One is for someone to measure and weigh their Pit Bull rear stand and let me know the dimensions and weight so I can get an accurate estimate of shipping cost. Two, is that if they're going to overcharge me by a bundle, I'd ask for one of you guys to kindly pick it up from the store and take it to UPS when you get a chance and I'd send you actual shipping costs, plus $5 for your gas.

First thing though is to just measure and weigh your Pit Bull stand and give me shipping dimensions and a weight.

Thanks for your help.

Well, the reason it is probably so much is due to the size of the box. I ship alot of items and even have my own shipper account with both UPS and FedEx. If the box is a certain size then it get's shipped as a 30# or 50# size regardless of it's actual weight. So that might not be too far off.... I don't even know where this is....we'll see what everybody else says...

Thanks for the info Gas, if that quote is accurate, then I'll have no problem paying it. It just seemed like they were trying to make some extra cash on the sale.

They made you aware of the shipping costs in the auction before hand right? So if they say its $30 then I would expect to pay the $30 regardless of what it costs them to actually ship the item. MANY many sellers on eBay (myself included) will charge a flat rate shipping to insure the real shipping cost is actually covered plus a little extra to buffer my money making. I ship DVD's and CD's out all the time at $1.23 each. Yet my shipping charge is $5 flat. WHich covers the packaging etc. As long as they told you upfront in the auction I would just expect to pay that, not try and negotiate the shipping cost after the fact.

No, the auction says "CONTACT SELLER FOR SHIPPING AND HANDLING CHARGES. RATE FROM MICHIGAN TO CALIFORNIA IS $48.00 FEX EX GROUNG IF THIS HELPS YOU DETERMINE YOUR SHIPPING"

I emailed them and they said it would be "around" $30. That sounded a bit high (as did the $48 quote from auction) that's why I'm asking for info on stand measurements and weights here. Believe me, I would have no problem paying shipping and handling, but I don't want to pay 15-20 more than actual shipping costs.

Gas Man, my zip code is 47802. I don't know shipping sizes, maybe twisty could measure his Pit Bull stand and tell you the measurements.

Yeah, Twisty, give us a measurement of your stand...wide,height,length.... I can check it.

Also, as Ace said, the S&H cost also has to do with his costs. Maybe he had to buy a box or somin. But I always compare apples to apples. Even if he is "padding" his sale price with a higher S&H fee.... compare total price to total price. Alot of ebayers will low ball everybody else's prices by $10 and then sneak it in on S&H. That's why I compare total prices...that's all the really counts anyway!

What's the store name? There is only one dealership that I know of in Clinton, or in the area around clinton and it's called Macomb Cycle, but the E-Bay sale does not match the address. It's about seven miles from my house and I would have no problem picking it up for you once your sale is complete. The area looks fairly residential, there are a couple of small businesses in the area, but no major shops that I know of. The stand looks like it doesn't break-down, so even though it's pretty light, the bulk of the cost is probably the big chunk of air that is filling the box itself. So thrity bucks may not be far off the mark if the box is a s big as I think it may be. Let me know if you win it and if you need a hand.

I guess it's a place that takes items on consignment and then sells them on ebay. Thanks for your help if I win and they want to charge too much for shipping.

CPT. Below is the online quote for the shipment from the UPS website. It only looks like an extra $9. I live Northeast of Clinton TWP and work Southwest of it. So I pass by there everyday.

The size is 31"x22"x18" and it weighs about 12# (15#shipping guess?) From the quote it looks like they are charging for the size mainly.

Thanks. With actual shipping of $21 and then figuring in packaging and time spent getting the package to UPS or FedEx, a quoted price of "around $30" isn't too bad.

I really appreciate the help from everyone.

I'll be coming down to Putnam in April for Sportbike Track Time track day. If you are looking for a free delivery and are not in a hurry. Let me know if you need assistance.

Hmmm, that sounds like an excellent idea. It would give me a reason to go out to a track day. I assume you're talking about the STT event on April 8/9, right? It's the only STT day I see on Putnam's schedule for April. I don't really think an extra couple months of waiting would hurt so I'll think it over. Of course, it all depends on whether or not I win the auction. Someone just threw in a few bids and pumped it up to $82. My max is currently $85, but that was because I was figuring in shipping costs. I'll let you know what I decide to do. And regardless of what I decide, if you need a bed to sleep in while you're here, just let me know because I have a spare bedroom that would be available. I'm about 45 mins away from the track.

You got the right dates. :pat: I made it down last year and had a great time, it put me a month ahead of most with the early track day to get the rust off. I jumped in the track days with both feet last year and travel with a motor home and trailer. Thanks for the offer. Recreation Liesure Corp in Farmington, MI sells the Pit Bull stands new for $140 (aprox. depend on model). Good lucl on the auction. :luck:

Maybe you can convince WOS to come down for that weekend and we could all get together. ;) I would love to have the time to just travel and do track days, I think it would be a blast.
