Michigan apparently joins the other moron States (i.e. Ohio) with their helmet law change. Sweet, now WOS can hit Toledo and ride the whole way like the squids we see at the boarder wearing no helmet, shorts and flip flops!

How stupid. I suppose next the will say seatbelts aren't needed. Hell, I'm sure insurance isn't needed either since that infringes on freedom. What a crock.

The only plus I can see coming out of this is if the increase the insurance of riders who don't wear helmets and decrease premiums for those who do.

This is my largest gripe!!

Everybody talks choice.... BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! In Michigan we don't even have a choice to wear a seat belt inside a steel cage with airbags bursting in every direction but from the floor!!! So where's the choice???? :screwy:

but yet you don't have to wear a helmet now, I see some bad things to come this year the newbies trying to look cool for the chicks might as well give them a little :bonk: on the head when they buy their new bike to get them used to the feeling! :bash:

It's a bad idea i think

But it's a contridiction... I have no other protection for my head but I don't have to wear a helmet but when I'm in the cage with airbags, I have to wear a seatbelt!!!

I don't care, but as you said, I know we are going to see alot of bad news lines this summer! :nonod:

Choice? I dont understand why it should be a choice. Basically let say your driving in your "cage" and happen to come up on a bike at a light, not stop in time and bump the bike. The rider falls from the bike knocking their head on the ground........(Senario 1) the rider had a helmet on, helmet absorbs the impact, rider gets up and is pissed off at what just happened and that his bike is on its side.........(Senario 2) the rider "choose" not to wear a new helmet under the new law, when he falls, his head takes all the impact. Instantly knocking him out, blood leaks from a gash in the head and from the nose. As people stand around jerking it, waiting for emergency to arrive the rider ends up dying. WOW that sucks. Now "you", as the "cage" driver instead of facing a ticket for a slight accident is now staring at involuntary manslaughter (you killed someone).

I think its pretty simple and clear cut how much that is going to suck. Something so simple as a helmet stands between slight accidents but no fatalities and now MANY easily prevented fatalities.

Its been proven that in the majority (not all) of accidents seatbelts save lives. Well same for helmets, so why even allow someone to have that option?

Because that is what freedom is about...Where do you draw the line? What choices do people get to make and which are decided for them?? BIG question...WHO gets to make your choices for you?? Except in matters of public safety, ie, Capital crimes and such, you should be free to make your own choices. You do have a right to be squidly stupid in this country...and you get to face the consequences of your stupidity. But why should you get to impose your judgements on me? Why should you tell me I have to wear a helmet? So if the insurance company refuses to pay when I get hurt...that is a consequence...I learned a long, long, long time ago you can not protect people from themselves no matter how many laws you pass.

Excellent example. :iagree: I don't see this as a question of freedom or choice. It simply comes down to safety.

You could get run over anytime or injured anyplace.
What if I fall down in the shower and crack my head open?
Should I wear a helmet in the shower? Should shower manufacturers have a disclaimer for injuries?

Becca, its all about choice. What if I told you, you can't drive your car after 11 pm or before 4 am cause more accidents are caused between 11pm and 4 am.

Or what if you could drive at those ours only with a helmet on.

Isn't that imposing on your right to drive? or how you drive?

Where do you draw the Line?

I thought this country was founded on freedom and the right to choose?

Don't get me wrong here... I always ride with a helmet, and wear a seatbelt, but I still think you should have that choice. :pat:
