One of the latest crazes, as we all know, is the media capitalizing on the bike craze ever since the first episode of Motorcycle Mania came out with Jesse James and WCC, followed by Discovery channels launch of American Chopper, and of course all the spin offs on discovery, TLC, etc.

Many motorcycle riders, chopper/harley enthusiasts as well as sportbike riders, think that all this publicity makes riders look bad..that we are all disfunctional, ignorant, home-wreckers, etc., and all we care about are out bikes.

While that caring about bikes may be true. :) , what's your thoughts on these shows and the publicity it gives to motorcyclists in general? Do you watch the shows? what do you think about them?

Personally... I like watching american chopper. I think they're all so disfunctional its hysterical. They keep me entertained with their constant arguing, but all that aside, they've got some of the most creative and talented minds I've ever seen. From fabricating to assembly, I really enjoy seeing the finished products. While Im not a chopper guy by any means, its still fun to see them go thru the process of designing it and building it.

The public is going to perceive us, or anybody else, how they want to anyways, so why bother worrying about what they think about us. We are the ones enjoying riding on 2 wheels, and if they never experience it because of their own ignorance or attitude, it's their loss...IMHO

The perception of riders, whether its on a sportbike or chopper, is always going to be one of.."they're crazy, thats too dangerous, dont they think about their families wellbeing if they wreck, etc " ....so be it, there are a$$holes in every profession and hobby, hell there's probably assholes in the local retirement home quilting club but that doesnt stop the little old ladies from doing their thing, so why should it stop us.

I like to watch them when every they are on tv and think they are great. Yes they do make me laugh when I see them fighting or what ever besides building bikes, but thats what tv is all about. Ratings. Do what ever it takes to get ppl watching and stay watching. New watchers and return watchers is what it is all about.

Now all these ppl who like to complain about the shows we like to watch but now lets look at the ones they watch. Everyone out there is watching some kind of Reality show. There shows and our shows are all the same. Get ppl to watch. They just want something to bi#ch about and are not happy if they are not bi#ching. Sounds like my other half. LOL :smilelol:

Well, thats my .02

I like watching the races but I rarely watch the shows anymore. Two Wheel Tuesday drives me crazy, they should just call it Trials Bike Tuesday. American Thunder should be called Indians and More Indians. Orange County Choppers is fun for short amounts of time b/c it's the same thing over and over.

I don't know, maybe I just get bored too easy. lol

As for the effect on the public's perception etc, I don't know. It would be safe to say bike ownership has gone up.

I watch it after it's been TiVo'd. That way I can skip through the 18 minutes of commercials and 22 minutes of chopper talk. :D
